Is 500mb internet usage enough??

NOPE wrong... thats just an apple iphone restriction !

i have a htc hero android phone on o2 and i can watch iplayer over 3G just fine ;)

iPhone 3GS user here and can watch iPlayer over 3G fine. ;)

PS- iPhone 3G/3GS > HTC Magic/Hero
PPS- This is coming from a former HTC Hero user. ;)

must be jail broken which is illegal and invalidates the warranty then.

i moved from iphone 3g contract to htc hero

its just personal opinion but i prefer the htc hero i hate itunes and like the facebook integration and stuff working right out the box as it should be without having to jailbreak

Jail Braking hasn't been proved to be illegal yet, not according to Wikipedia anyway.

"The legality of jail breaking an iPod or iPhone remains unclear, particularly in the context of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. As part of the 2009 DMCA rulemaking, the Electronic Frontier Foundation asked the US Copyright Office to recognize an exemption to the DMCA to permit jail breaking in order to allow iPhone owners to use their phones with applications that are not available from Apple's store.[19] In response to this, Apple filed comments opposing this exemption and indicating that they do consider jailbreaking to be a violation of copyright (and by implication prosecutable under the DMCA). A ruling on this proposed exemption has not yet been made, but a decision is expected sometime later in 2009."

It's just a method to run, whatever programs you want on your iphone, which imo its your phone you should be able to do whatever you want with it. Apple are just trying to control people in order to make money obviously.

And yet if you brick your phone during the process of jailbreaking or for any other reason and it's found to be jailbroken by Apple, your warranty is void on their terms and they won't fix it or replace it for free :)

I don't know about Android phones but if you do 'brick' the iPhone, just do a simple restore of the backup. Simples.
It's no different from if you brick your phone rooting an Android phone.

Read all the reviews on the internet, watch all the videos on Youtube. The iPhone is better than the HTC Hero / Palm Pre or any other iPhone wanabe out right now.

Anway, lets not drift from the Topic. 500mb is enough if you don't stream audio/video over 3G regularly.

I've got 500mb "Unlimited" with my Vodafone contract and had huge concerns that it was a pathetic amount.

Mind you, when I'm at work and want to use the Internet I use my work laptop and connection.

When at home I use my own laptop and Virgin broadband.

Only time I really use the Vodafone connection is when I'm out and about at weekends. If I need to use my phone at home I simply turn WiFi on.

Think I only average around 150mb of useage anyway.

The majority of the time you brick and iPhone/iPod Touch, there's no way to restore it as it won't turn on for the user but the apple store guys will usually be able to get it working ;)

500mb isnt enough if you stream music/video (use spotify, bbc etc) in your phone - it certainly isnt enough if you tether your phone too. In my opinion 500mb is a disingenuous amount to limit users to on an 'unlimited' tariff.

Since April 08, I've used 172mb up, 1.0GB down on my iPhone 2g (never reset statistics)

If it was a 3g one, theres the potential I'd have used a bit more, but I can't see myself using 500mb per month if I've currently only used double that in 18 months!

Using Spotify Premium on a HTC Hero, do the songs once you've played them get stored on the device so when you play them again you don't have to re-stream them?

This happens on the PC with a free account, just wondering if its the same deal.

Thanks
