Is 55 degrees for an AMD Duron too hot?

I'm trying to install Windows XP on an oldish computer that has an AMD 1300 Duron. It's crashing a lot and I noticed that the BIOS was reporting the temp as 55 degrees C. Is this too hot and likely to cause the crashes?

If so are AMD duron fans still available to buy?

55c just installing windows is a little on the warm side.
cooling fans can still be bought for socket A setups. get something like a thermaltake silent boost. its very good even on xp3200 cpus.
best one to get would be the thermaltake big typhoon but thats involving a mobo removal.
i use a g-power cooler and its very easy to fit and cooled my xp-m2600 @ 2.5ghz 1.825v to 54c max load under snm. would recommend it a lot and i took my gpower over to my opteron setup and its working fine.

All Duron's are Socket A & can handle 85°C~90°C. Had an Athlon (Thunderbird then XP) which idled at 55°C & on load never went beyond 66°C. Was very stable but high temps were down to poor ventilation/air-flow. I'd investigate your stability issues further than the processor
