Is 5ms response good for gaming??

Most likely - yes (in terms of response time - obviously you will need to weigh up all the other features of the monitor to determine whether it is good for gaming).

However, just going by the quoted response time statistics provided by the manufacturer is not a good idea (as with pretty much all monitor specs). They use non-standardised tests to achieve these numbers - and the quoted number gives no indication of whether overdrive (Response Time Compensation) is being used or if it is too aggressive.

Hence, the best way to gauge whether a monitor is good for gaming is to look up a number of in-depth independent reviews. May I ask what monitor make and model you are looking at?

its a Benq E2220HD, ocuk dont sell as iv seen it in a local computer shop, it caught my eye as its got 2x hdmi, dvi and vga inputs, built-in speakers and a usb hub, it will only be used for casual gaming and my 360.

I read a few good reviews but still wanted some feedback, thinking this is the best place.

Looking at this review, it looks like an decent monitor considering the price. It uses a TN panel and has very low input lag - so it should be fine for gaming.

However, I wouldn't suggest using the integrated speakers - they are very poor. You would be much better off using a cheap set of speakers like these or a decent headset instead of the 1.5W built-in ones.

thanks for your suggestion, i have a stereo so i could always plug the aux out into that if i wanted music/movies or just load gaming :P

thanks for your help
