Hello Guys and Dolls, Im planning on doing my first build within the next month or so and am just finalising the main system components that i want, my main question i have is 6 core well to much?? bear in mind i want this build to last me at least 3 years before i need to do any sort of mass overhaul etc.

on a side note i game, watch films and well surf the web with my computers :)

thanks very much

It doesn;t matter how many cores for a first build, the biggest question is would you use / need 6 cores?

Its all in one CPU package so installation is identical.

3 Years is a fair amount of time and you can pickup a OEM 980x for around £550. The 980x will last well beyond 3 years with some serious overclocking potential. If you can afford it I would say it's a good move. Buy, Forget and Enjoy.

crackpipe down.

no one in their right mind spends 550 on a cpu in the hope it would last 3 years.

if someone had that money to burn on a cpu they would be better diving 550 by 3 and upgrading the cpu each year

Crackpipe, LOL.
May be he doesn't want to mess around every year upgrading ;)

Further the 980x will easily last 3 years.

I just paid £800 for a pre-overclocked i7 with a 120Gb SSD and that will last me another 2-3 years. My E6600 has only just been retired, and that lasted me well! (Although I have made 2 gfx jumps, 8800gts to 9800gtx to my current 5850)

indeed i don't wanna upgrade yearly as this has been something i have been doing due to the fact i purchase **** dells ... but similarly i haven't just won the lottery and i don't particularly want to spend a large amount of drink money on a cpu else i'll be a recluse for the first few months of my uni degree

so you already have some components ? if so, what u got?

we need to know if it's a intel or amd system.

if its amd, go for 1090T
