Hi Chaps,

I want to get another 6870, but if anything prices seem to have gone up over the last month or so.

Are they being discontinued and if so can i expect prices to drop or will they just become unavailiable at some point?

Thanks.

I think AMD want the 7770's to take over this price bracket as they are similar performing and similarly priced. Although I think I read the 6870's were better?

I think you'll be able to pick one up for £130 easily enough brand new - how much do you want to pay?

Yeah I believe the 6870 is better than the 7770.

I paid £130 a month ago but there seem to be loads fewer places selling for that price now.

I don't mind paying the same again at all, I was just wondering how things work, do prices drop as a card reaches the end of its life, or do they just disappear?

Depends on the performance - either retailers will discount them to shift stock if they have loads left or if the product becomes a super desirable second card for a crossfire/SLI set up it'll hold price for a while probably.

Edit: In short, it's difficult to predict.

I also toyed with the idea of getting a second 6870 but my motherboard is a problem as it runs only in 16x/4x and from what I've read can cause micro stuttering to be more prominent.
