Is 70C the highest you should run a Q6600

I run mine nearly 7 hours at a time at around 75C (Load Temp) since December

Getting my Tuniq tower and AS5 soon so should lower it quite a bit.

I`m not saying it will cause it to fail but do you really want signs of burning on your CPU when you come to sell it? I know mine got to 80C and after inspecting it there is very slight burning on it.

odd how you got signs of burning when Intel chips are made of heat resistant ceramic and the chips have an inbuilt Thermal Throttle to protect the chip from damage if they get too hot ?

What tend to ruin chips is overvolting.

im on my 2nd q6600.

first one was a high VID one, and during suicide runs, i've hit 85c. there were no signs of burning on it.

currently using a low VID q6600, and i've also hit 75c at 3.6Ghz :) hopefully winter shall allow me to run 3.6Ghz at 70c

I am using a Tuniq tower also.

Q6600 @ 3.2 and it's hitting 80... :/

I have reseated and it's with AS5.

Even with the hot summer this seems a bit off.

Ah well I have to run it at stock now.

Following on from my post below where my Q6600 got slightly burned at 80C not enough to kill it (I don't think) but not a good sign. This was on stock cooling + a big fan on top outside the case.

I`m hoping that my chip will be able to run at slightly below 1.4v and remain stable at 3.4ghz this should keep the temps down to 70C. It seems at 80C things are already starting to burn. Just how safe is 70C even.

Water cool that sucka. Mines at 3.6Ghz on 1.5v: idle 30-32 deg, load temps of 42-48deg on a blazing hot day yesterday and blissful silence to top it off. ;)

Read my post above, have you checked the screws? The 2 on the right hand side had worked loose, might be worth keeping an eye on it. Also tidying the cables and improving the air flow is always a good idea.

EDIT: just re-read you have re-seated, just ignore lol

ignore if you have done all that obviously :p

What idles are people getting is this heat?

i throw 1.8v though my q6600 to benchmark it. Can hit 100°c at that voltage. Nothing wrong with the chip as of yet...

1.5v, custom water cooling: 48/47/46/46, in winter, low 30's

1.8? how come ive not seen this on the quad core database, make a dam thread or if you have one linky!

highest ive seen here is around 1.6

because the quad core database is for stable clocks.

Here, have some pics:
