Hi,

I bought a Super Hyper Turbo Memory Foam 3000 mattress from one of the big retail stores that sells carpets and beds, in hindsight I should have known it was crap. But for the second time now the mattress has practically split in half in a number of places revealing the springs underneath. The first time I had it replaced by taking it back with my receipt (Sep 10).

I then put the receipt in a 'safe place' somewhere knowing it would probably happen again......it has, but my safe place for the receipt is so safe i can't find it.

Does anyone know if a bank statement clearly showing the retailer, date and amount is sufficient proof of purchase? The store say it isn't.

It wasn't a particularly cheap mattress and I would rather not have to go buy a new one :/

It came with a 5 year warranty and I bought it in Sep 2009, it was then replaced last September as it was faulty.

Appreciate any advice, Direct.gov seems to contradict what other websites say

Yeah I thought that might be the case, they've recently been bought out (which is true) and lots of information was lost during their migration of systems apparently :/

While `proof of purchase` might be proven from a bank statement it might not be accepted by the retailer much in the same way certain forms of ID are not accepted for purchasing alcohol and stuff. Not saying that is the case but the retailer might insist the only form of proof it will accept is the orginal receipt.

You will need some ‘proof of purchase’ to return faulty items to a shop such as:
a receipt
a bank statement
the shop’s packaging
a witness – someone who saw you buy it
If there is nothing wrong with the item, you don’t have the legal right to return it. Some shops may let you return the item if you provide the proof of purchase that the shop wants, eg a receipt. Check the shop’s returns policy before you buy.

The item is faulty a receipt is not required it just makes things a bit simpler.

Super Hyper Turbo Memory Foam 3000

Sounds crap just from the name.

I might have added an element of poetic licence with the name.

But your right, it is crap

Just got back from the store, immediately the guy said "no, must have reciept to return" and then half a second after flashing the Direct Gov printout in front of him, he said "ok thats fine i'll take the bank statements".

Phoning head office tomorrow to approve a return apparently and will get back to me tomorrow. Asked if we could have a different mattress and pay any difference, to which he said no.

Thinking of just going and buying a new mattress (different brand!) and then sell the replacement when it shows up, can't be doing this every 12 months :/

Right, the store has agreed to give me a credit on a new mattress of my choice, I'm steering clear of foam this time.

Does anyone know of these brands has the better reputation, I will try them all out of course, just dont want to get it wrong this time.

Super Hyper Turbo Memory Foam 3000 - imo, sounds like the most amazing matress ever, performance wouldn't matter to me, i'd buy solely on name alone
