Is a bios update worth it?

Yeah my bios can screenshot to usb
But then once I am in the new bios
Can't see the screenshots
Could plug the USB into my tablet or phone I guess
But I just prefer to snap a phone picture
Doesn't matter if its bad
Just has to be readable

Can even save my bios profile
To usb
But you can't load them back onto
A new bios version
So bit of a pointless feature really

My bios settings tend to be mainly static between releases so i just have a folder on my laptop with the screenshots and display them when I'm updating the bios on my desktop.

Unless you need it due to X no examples include
  1. security updates
  2. compatibility updates (for new cpus or more ram support)
  3. feature updates(things like resizeable bar support)

Better compatibility with my CPU would be the main reason.

Yeah it's a PITA that saved profiles
Won't work
If you update the bios
Especially if you've really tinkered with
Ram settings
And cpu overclocking/curve optimiser etc
Usually I photograph all my settings
Then re apply them after update

That's what I needed to do for my Gigabyte board, no settings able to restore EXCEPT for fan profiles. That's with my Z690 board.

going back quite a while but, iirc, at one time my Gigabyte Z390 board used to be able to restore settings between BIOS versions, but with later revisions that was prevented.

Of course I always forget where the damn menus for the settings are, so many menus and sub-menus...!

I kept getting lost in the settings menu structure so created a text file with the menu structure of my settings. That with the screenshots makes bios upgrades just about painless. It's all a bit of a fag to begin with but once documented it makes life so much easier.

Great idea. I'll have to get my head around that one. But it does seem perfect to my needs :)

The main bios to have is F6, in my opinion, since it supposedly protects the CPU on a hardware level. Whatever enhancement F9 may have is nice, but F6 potentially prevents catastrophic damage to the board/CPU.
