Is a modular PSU worth it?

I'd say yes because it makes cable management a lot easier. If you're on a budget then you could get away with a non modular one, but if you can afford the extra, it's certainly worth it.

Non-modular - all the cables are fixed to the PSU
Modular - some cables are fixed to the PSU, plus a bunch extra you can attach if you want
Fully-Modular - no cables are fixed, attach what you need

It comes down to neatness. If you don't value the neatness of your rig, then save some cash and get a non-modular PSU.

Secondary considerations
- less cables can improve airflow
- cable clutter can cause noise
- cheap low-quality PSUs are usually non-modular

I think it also depends on the cable management on your case. If you have bad, or little cable management then you should go with a modular PSU. If you have good cable management and can hide the cables, then just go with a normal PSU. I've done just fine with a normal PSU in my PC-K62 case.

I would get a modular psu if my case had a side window to make it look neat. Also if u do buy a modular psu be sure to put the cables u don't use somewhere safe!

Love my Corsair modular PSU, makes thing so much neater and easier to route.

Get a modular PSU if you can, I wish I had, the sea of snakes is messier than I originally anticipated.

I've had Modular PSU's for over 6 years, would never go back to a non-modular ever, less mess, less hassle.

This.

However, I managed to get a good brand (XFX) 850w PSU for about £70. I think a similar modular one would have cost about £100. It's probably worth it if you have the cash, but I was trying to keep my build costs as low as possible.

Yup, fully agree with getting a modular, makes things easier. i went from a 800w non modular to a xfx modular and its so much easier just to do take care of
