is alienware really worth it

I highly recommend you go and check one out in person first.

I did and it made all the difference - I didnt end up placing an order for one.

In person it looks even more silly than in the photos, like some cheap plastic toy. I cannot stress enough how cheap and tacky the finish is. The soft touch adds some elegance but ultimately it's wasted as a) it's not a very good execution of the soft touch, b) everything else around it looks so bad

The keyboard is also very poor imho, far too little depress and far too much resistance. Plus for a 17" laptop the keys are a little thin and small.

The display was very poor and extremely reflective. Even on the brightest setting there was still far too much reflection in a not even brightly lit room.

And finally, it sounds like a jet turbine when the fans are on max.

thanks for the advice, i know the 17" is a bit to big for my liking really as my monitor on my PC is 19" and i cudnt imagian a laptop tht big. i really would like the 14/15 is and my bro has the 11 and tht is too small for me haha

if you're not too fussed about having the latest and greatest, why dont you go for one of the Samsung's? they have some nice sleek ones in the 15" range. If you arent bothered about having the best GFX card out there, and no SSD's then go for the samsung Series 7 gamer 700G7C. It looks the bizz and packs a punch, just not the toughest punch out there.

Alternatively there are the fully customizable shells like the Clevos

If you like the idea of paying for something purely for a name, yes. If not, no. It's like beats headphones. Some at best average tat with shiney plastic and a name stuck on.

Do yourself a favour, buy better and cheaper.

Short answer: NO!

Optimus III is an awesome clevo rebadged laptop.

Overpriced, theres independants out there which are much better and will provide a better, more custom solution.
You might not have a flashy case but it's what inside it that matters.

Id say the full whack price is overpriced, you can usually get solid discounts though, with these they are no more expensive than custom solutions, from the outlet they can be a total bargain.

It’s worth thinking about warranty, is the company going to be there in 8-9 months? Look what happened to Kobalt Laptops. I almost got one as people were saying they were the best! The good thing about Dell is it will be there if things go wrong. As for all the Alienware is overpriced, most people get big discounts so they end up being cheaper than most other options and they have a solid warranty.

I have beef with dell as it is to be honest, bunch of useless clowns on the end of the phone.
Couldn't find their arse with both hands and the help of a private investigator. Rubbish service.

There's plenty around that have done a good few years trading and still MUCH cheaper than Alienware/Dell. If you grab a bargain from the outlet - fine, if you are buying from the main shop, forget it. Get something worth your money.

Also worth noting, dont be tempted into one of the m17r3's from the outet, the r4 is a massive improvement, noise, heat and performance wise, Ive been really impressed with the r4.
