Is AMD due to release any CPU's that will be fast as an Intel CPU ?

Am thinking of upgrading another one the PC's in my house and I was wondering if anyone knows if AMD are due to release any new CPU's that will be as fast an Intel i7-8700k cpu ?

Or do I still stick with buying an intel i7-8700k/8086K cpu...

You should spend as much money as possible, on an 8086K 5.3GHz binned with a top of the range Z370 motherboard, and 16GB/32GB DDR4-4266MHz RAM to get the best performance. If you are playing at 720P/1080P then you probably should make sure you have a 1080 Ti as well otherwise you might find you dip below 160 FPS in some games at Ultra settings, I wouldn't recommend SLI however since the benefit isn't there really. If you get yourself a nice 1TB Samsung 970 Pro M.2 drive, your games could load way, way faster too, up to 20%+ in some titles.

It's going to be a massive upgrade if you are coming from an i7-2600K etc. you'll probably get a 15-20%+ performance boost, and in my opinion spending about £1300-1500 for this gain is totally worth it.

I doubt you'll get any better advice than that, since nothing can touch what I have recommended. Make sure you post some photos once you've built it. :)
Your close

It for upgrading my HTPC from a i5-2500 cpu to use for gaming at 1080p on my TV
But only have a GTX 1080 and not a ti

Also if its next to a TV,surely something like a Core i7 8700 non-K with a quiet cooler would make more sense?? Just increase the TDP limit and it should boost somewhat higher too.
I always go for the K versions due to I have multi PC's and when i upgrade one of them the old parts are then use to upgraded one the other PC's

So at the moment I have 4 PC's with these CPU's

8700k
2500k
4770k
E8500 (Think this one is only dual core)

I have seen the light, and it looks like 28 cores using north of 1kw with a massive 1Hp cooler.
This is truly the work of god, all hail intel.
That what happening with AMD & Intel

Instead of improving there cpu cores it looks like there just going stick 100 cores together and then say here your faster cpu and who ever can throw the most cores on wins…:(

If you game at 1080p with GTX1080Ti not yet. Next year.

If you game with lesser card or at higher resolution, there is no different between 5Ghz 8700K and 2700X at 4.2Ghz.
Also to achieve 5Ghz you have to delid losing the warranty and potential damaging the chip, and watercool the CPU.
The 2700X can do it with the stock cooler.

MY 8700k does 5ghz at 62c with air cooling

What does an AMD 2700x cpu need for 5ghz ?
The 2700X can do it with the stock cooler.
Do you mean the 2700x can do 5ghz with the stock cooler

You already have the 1080 or is that want you want to buy? if i was you i would get the Ryzen 2600 and use the money saved to get the 1080TI instead, the 8700K is not that much faster with a 1080TI, and only at 1080P or less, even then you get more performance than you would with an 8700K and a 1080.
I already have the 1080

Am not worried about what the cpu can run now, It what they can run in 5+ years time as due to be owning 4 systems some of them may not be upgraded for many years..
(I.E notice two my systems are very old E8500 & i5-2500 cpu's)

The way that you measure CPU performance in games is to benchmark at 720P, The 8700K is faster, not by a huge amount, Panos put up a 35 Game review, the 8700K when not limited by the GPU was overall 13% faster than the 2700X, game specific it varies from game to game, that will be the same in 5 years time because CPU's don't get faster over time..
Am also guessing if in say 5 years time if games uses more cores better then there a chance that the 8 core AMD cpu could be faster then intel 6 core cpu in games

No way of knowing what going happen in the future :(
