i've always tended to buy 1 big drive and lump everything on it, then add more drives when i need them. However in the last couple of years i've tended to buy smaller drives (200gig) just for the os/apps/odd game, then everything else goes on externals (music/videos/backups)

As i'm using an sff (sugo sg01) which is near silent, i was wondering if now was the time to switch to a SSD?

As it will only be used for Windows (7), CS4, a few other apps and maybe a game or two, i should be able to get away with a 32Gig or 64gig.

What drive would you recommend or am i bteer off just getting another small sata drive?

Ideal setup would be SSD for your boot/apps/games drive and a normal HDD for storage (music, videos, files).

The SSD capacity really depends on what you're going to install on it:

Windows 7 - 20gb (at least that's how large my Win 7 folder is)
MS Office - 3gb (guesstimate)
Adobe CS 4 - 5gb (guesstimate)

Then you have your games - any modern title is going to eat up space:

World of Warcraft - 15gb
The Sims 3 - 5gb
Empire Total War - 14gb
Counter-Strike Source - 4gb
Team Fortress 2 - 4gb

So I think that for a desktop, 128gb is the comfortable minimum :)

120GB is more than you need for apps alone.

30/32gb will cover windows, office and the "necessary" programs
60/64gb will allow you to install windows, office, adobe suite and pretty much any non-game programs you need.

120/128gb is only really necessary if you have a lot of games, once you've got windows, office, visual studio and adobe suite there really aren't many "big" programs needing more than a couple of hundred MB - unless you're heavily into multimedia and need multiple platforms, but most people can get by with the combination of office, adobe and visual studio with a few other smaller apps.
