Is anyone around Manchester available to view a car with me?

Hi guys,

I won a Seat Leon Cupra R on eBay and my dad who is a mechanic cannot come to view the car as he is away. I know is a long shot but I was wondering if anyone is around in that area who wouldn't mind coming with me to check it out before parting with my cash? Special treat for the lucky person :-)

Does it matter as effecively you've bought the car anyway?

As far as I know you bid to buy, not view on ebay.

Yup, this is how it works. If you'd seen it on ebay, wanted to look before auction end, then fine you can do that. But you can't win, go look then refuse to buy it.

You've won the auction, you have to buy it now.

He doesn't have to do anything.

Anyone buying a car on eBay and just taking it without inspection because 'you bid to buy' is a grade-A idiot.

Plus, if there is something wrong with it that isn't mentioned in the advert, that surely constitutes as an inaccurate description, something of which ignorance is no excuse for.

Sadly I'm no where near Manchester, else I'd love to help, but ignore people telling you that you have to buy it - if there is something wrong with it, walk away - but definitely take someone who knows what they are looking at.

I'm in Manchester and depending on the day I will come and view it with you if you like :)

Me too, I am travelling from London but thank you for the advice :-)

That would be fantastic. Let me drop you an email.

He can only walk away if it does not meet the description, same as with any ebay auction or indeed any sale online. If the description is minimal and there are minimal photos, that's his bad luck. If however the description states that 'uses no oil, sign of a good turbo, doesn't smoke on start up' and it smokes on start up etc. then he has grounds to walk away.

You cant win an auction on Ebay and then walk away because the outside temperature guage doesnt work or something, for example.

Are the ebay rules enforced in reality ? If he can get away with not buying it then I see no reason why he ''must'' buy it because some site tells him to.

I'm assuming he wants someone with a bit of knowledge to come check that it is in the condition as advertised... I hope he doesn't think he can turn up then walk away because he doesn't infact like it on sight.

"he can only walk away if", "you cant win an auction and walk away" - says who? Is eBay going to hold a gun to his head and force him to part with his cash? Or is he vendor going to leave negative feedback, and that'll be that.

You accuse me of being on a high horse, yet the rest of the people here are saying he has to purchase a car even if its duff like its the law or something.

That's correct, just want to make sure it's as described. No faulty engine etc.

This is exactly the reason why ebay is flawed, and I have no idea why there wasn't a competitor advert site ( which doesn't ''bond'' you to doing anything) that has knocked it far from nr.1...

You are entering into a contract to buy the product on auction. Nobody said it has to be bought if ts duff, just if it is not as described.

Yeah, someone really ought to create some sort of website where people can post adverts for cars for sale..

Because that would be a horrible site to use. People wasting sellers time and listing fees etc.

Oh, I'm sure more cars sell on eBay than autotrader these days, there goes your no1 competitor...

The cars section of ebay has different rules to the rest of ebay. Not sure whether that includes being allowed to back out after viewing, but I can't see why not.
