Is anyone still running windows 2000?

i can beat all of you.
one of my dads boxes in his study is still running windows 3 on a pentium chip and 8mb of ram

In our company we use about 200+ Windows 2000 machines
If it aint broke no need to fix it

NT4 , we still have about 50+

I really liked windows 2000, and NT4 was reliable as a granite mountain.

just remember guys, it could be worse...

it could be ME

was asked to "fix" a computer the other day...
nearly died when it was a 286 with 1 meg ram and windows 3.11. they said they had a "huge" hard drive in it. 20 meg seagate was the sight that greeted me when I removed the 6 inches of dust!!!

Their other machine was an Amiga 500 with 512 meg ram.....much much better, and used for "those graphics type thingys"

God that brings back memories. My first Windows computer was a Compaq 286 laptop.

Quick Specs:

  • 12 Mhz processor
  • 8.5 inches thin
  • Detachable keyboard
  • 20mb hard disk
  • Weighs 14lb(!)

It even had a little handle you pulled out of the front. I ended up part exchanging it for a 386 desktop with a colour screen.

It makes me sound a lot older than I am it's amazing how things have changed in such a short space of time.

Oh god, I can remember my dad having one of those for work.

Bloke I know was running Win98 with a dialup modem until I helped him get an i3 laptop and broadband a couple of months back.

One of the 'problems' with WinXP on older hardware is that it can be a little bloated with SP3 instaled. I remember in the early days I would boot XP and have a memory footprint under 100MB, but nowadays it seems like a good 200meg gets swallowed up just for the OS.

My old school used to run Win 95 pc's. My Grandad used to run windows me but then that caused an issue with vista, so I moved that onto XP.

My college probably still uses windows 2000 on their server, or at the very least windows 2003, from the look of when the PC's were built.

Don't be silly, no Microsoft ME computers are still running :p

Would it be cruel to install ME to my mates PC, just before he gets back off holiday...

Hmm, can I dual boot ME and 7...

Edit. Gah he has no hdd space left for ME. Shame

Edit 2. Found an old HSS that can have me on it. This prank is on.

We have about 30 computers at work in our Production and Service departments all running Windows 2000 Pro had no need to upgrade.

We also still have 1 computer running DOS as Windows is to slow :p

yes... and AWESOME.

take pictures :D

backup his install before you put ME on...

Tried it last night and in true ME style, setup crashed and It wouldn't run. Tried 95 and 98, both of them wouldn't run as well.

Windows 7 at home, but at work we still have a lot of windows 2000.

Our terminal servers are still Windows 2000 Adv Server, we have a number of 2000 serves though their are reducing.

All out tills use Windows 2000 as do the back offices they talk to, so in terms of devices we probably have around 1000 devices still running Windows 2000.
