Is Apple 4k TV the way to go?

I'll start off by saying I have a long dislike of Apple in general, there products, whilst well made & do what they should I just don't like the company.
however I'm in the position of thinking the Apple TV maybe what I want.

I have a 4k TV, AV setup & currently use amazon prime app, along with streaming from my nas & a few 4k discs.

I've read that itunes has a good library of 4k movies available, plus they will upgrade any standard films to 4k as they become available.

Anyone here use it & am I just being stubborn & doing myself out of an excellent product?

I know they quality won't be as good as the original 4k disc, but Im happy to compromise on certain films

I've been looking at this myself the last few weeks. Can't decide whether to pull the trigger. I've got a 4k player and netflix.

Very minimal difference between streaming and physical disks. Unless you sit 1 foot away from the TV I doubt you’ll notice.

I upgraded to an OLED a few weeks ago and picked up a 4K player at the same time. Films do look excellent but booting up the player, inserting the disc, waiting for it to load and skipping ads is a hassle that passively discourages me from using it. The same could be said of any disc system, but 4K discs are also relatively expensive and not generally available on the high street so you have to wait for a delivery.

The Apple TV, with a good connection, is a far smoother experience and the 4K content looks really good. If you don’t need the best picture possible or Atmos, the Apple is the clear choice. I’ve had it for a week and am flogging off my 4K player because I’ll probably never use it again.

I know Dolby Atmos is not available on apple yet but what versions of Dolby are avail, i.e is true hd avail is is it just Dolby digital

Like the idea of Apple TV but only Dolby digital would be a deal breaker

Where can you buy an Apple TV from
I Looked on OCuk and amazon and they don't seem to sell them..

I take it that the apple TV does support Netflix and amazon Prime video ?

Am limited by places that will ship to channel islands :(

Direct from Apple, Very or John Lewis.

They do support Netflix and Amazon video.

If they won’t ship to you, let me know and I’ll order you one and send it to you if you wanted.

I bought one as I've been using ATV since get 2 and have about 200 films purchased through the platform. It's great that existing purchases will be upgraded to 4k, so it was an easy decision for me. Watching Baby Driver in 4K on a 65" OLED from about 7 ft away is a very noticeable difference. I also have a 4k in the main lounge but thats only 46" and I sit further away, so I won't be upgrading that ATV

A physical disk obviously has small differences, maybe the hair on someone’s head is slightly sharper or certain objects may look better but watching a film in real time, you won’t notice a difference from a certain distance.

I sit 10ft from my 65” 4K HDR tv and the Apple TV is great.

I know because I’ve got an Apple 4K tv and I had an Xbox one s and a dedicated 4K Blu-ray player.

Obviously streaming services vary in quality but personally I find it fairly easy to see the additional detail present from a good quality bluray.

The main difference I find is in dark areas where the lower bitrate produces very distracting blocking/artifacting effects.
