I'm looking for some new sci-fi series to watch and I was looking at this. I don't think I've ever watched a single episode of it (). What's it like? :)

Yes

One of the best sci-fi series when you look at the full story (the same basic story spans all 5 seasons with a fairly good level of coherency).

It's a great show.

The first season is a bit hit and miss as there are a lot of seemingly random episodes making it feel a bit Star Treky but by the end of the first season things start coming together and things start to make more sense. It a series that gets better as you go along, both in terms of effects and storyline.

It has some of the coolest ships around as well.

It was so good it's the only DVDs I have ever bought. I bought Season 1 from gamestation for 19.99, then after watching it I bought the next 4 from WHsmiths. I haven't seen the last season, but I expect I will see it soon.

It really is good; an amazing storyline.

At it's best it's a really great show, although some of the bad episodes are really, really bad.

S1 is a bit patchy and there's a bit of a dislocation between S4 and S5 because the network were umming and ahhing about whether to fund the final year.

The TV movies are best avoided apart from the pilot episode 'The Gathering' which acts as a good standalone introduction to B5.

Definitely more good than bad though. Just don't watch too many in one sitting or you'll pick up Londo's accent.

It started getting good towards the end of series one, and seasons 2 & 3 were really very good.

However, after all the massive build up and tension I felt the 4th season was a bit of a let down, especially after the first few episodes, and I never even bothered with the final season.

Very good, but not in the same league as Star Trek and BSG.

Probably my favourite sci-fi series of all time.

Crusade was getting better by the end of the only season and I didn't like Legend of the Rangers much. I'd say the TV movies were average with "In the Beginning" being my favourite.

Looking forward to the new stuff that's set in the telepath war. Then again I always enjoyed the telepath/Psi-Corp stuff as my favourite bit of the B5 story arcs:)

I just wish they had managed to do the new stuff about 3-5 years ago.

I beleive 3 of the original B5 cast have now died, including the great Andreas Katsulas (G'Kar in B5, various Romulons in Trek, and by all accounts a very good stage actor), and Richard Biggs (Dr Franklin).

B5 simply isn't B5 without G'Kar lurking around, and keeping an eye on things.

I bought the first season as a blind buy and I loved it. The only thing I will say is the second episode is terrible (in my opinion) but stick with it. You should try and watch the pilot movie first (I didn't but might be better to do so).

Couldnt get on with it, i found it very dull.

Get the hell out of this Bab5 thread!!! ;) ;)
(in joke btw)

It was in general way above the Sci-Fi average quality and was on occasion absolutely amazing. On the other hand, as has been mentioned, when is was bad it was cover your eyes awful.

You either love it or hate it. Like any series there are good episosdes and bad ones. Its a bit drawn out IMO and it takes itself too seriously at times. That said I enjoyed it.

Quality wise Babylon 5 and Farscape are (generally) considered the best sci-fi TV shows ever made. Can't go wrong with either of them.

I really wasn't as bowled over by it as I was expecting to be, considering I was told it was better than BSG (it wasn't).
