Is Battlefied 2142 worth getting?

As thread title, I'm a huge fan of FPS's especially Counter Strike:Source.

Now I've never played a BF game in my life. Is it worth getting?

Also how would it run on my system?:

A64 3500+
1GB Ram
Galaxy 6800GT Pre-Clocked

i dont have it yet, but have played it many times round a number of friends and its very good, although i prefer BF2. Yeah that will run it smoothly, just not maxed out, would probably get away with mediums.
 
I have BF2, BF2 SF and BF2142. IMHO BF2 is the best but I have not devoted that much time to BF2142 yet. They are great FPS's especially in multiplayer. I suggest you try the demo before you buy if you are unsure.

It should run fine on your setup.
 
If you've never played a BF game in your life then I'd say its worth getting, you wont notice that its just a mod for BF2 practically. Sounds harsh but I do really enjoy the game myself anyway.

all the battlefiled games are great fun, with 2142 being the latest set in the future

if your coming from css i'd also recom'd Day of Defeat Source, theres nothing more intense than that game .. eod !
 
No don't get it. Its missing that wow factor that bf2 has with jets dog fighting, Choppers blasting Tanks and close combat. Titan mode is good but after shields are down its claymore heaven and re supply glory. Played both but bf2 and sf are so much better

Couldn't have said it better myself. I agree 100% with this entire post.
 
Get BF2 and SF for around 10-15 quid.
All the tards seem to have moved to 2142 and left BF2 to us :D
You cannot beat BF2, whether it be infantry only 64 man maps or full on Jets choppers tanks APC's jeeps & Buggys.
The whole feel of BF2 is much better than 2142 starting from the Amazing opening vid through the maps and through the gameplay and general feel you get.
Like i say the servers are pretty free of tards these days and games are Mega.
I've played the game since day of release and still play it daily ( was on earlier and am going on again in a mo) for the price you can get BF2 for now it is a Steal.

i have 1942 and all expansions, 2 and 2142.
imo 2 is the best with 2142 close second, just loved the way battles raged back and forth in BF2, a lot less dead locked like in 2142, which sees most maps fighting over 1 or 2 points.
bf2 saw small scale battles happening right across the map, it was much more team friendly. bf2142 is good in other ways though, looks a lot better for a start, and it seems to function more smoothly, and on less system resources than BF2... i'd still tell you to get 2142 though, as, if you buy BF2 you will be fighting much more of an up hill struggle to get to the top, whereas 2142 is relatively new and you will be around the same level as a lot more people.
 
A significant improvement on BF2 in almost every respect. Better squad tools, greater team-play, better graphics etc etc.

Get 2142.
 
Have ea got there finger out of there arse and released a decent patch? after 1.3 I just couldn't be bother anymore as there patching was getting worse with every release.
I may reinstall it if its worth it.
 
Yes get it, especially as you aint played a BF game before, if you go onto BF2 now its just the diehard's left and you will hate it as you will just die a lot, BF2142 is much more balanced really :) I don't understand why people say its just a mod for BF2, was BF2 not just a mod for BF1942?
 
The jets in bf2 lost the fun when it became possible for any nab to fly them :(

BF2 imo is the better choice, but 2142 has some nice parts too.

Get both.
 
^^ It is as bad a single player game as it is as brilliant as an online game.
Single player is only used for getting used to the Jets and choppers before you rage it up online.

Well that is rubbish. The one thing about this game that makes it better than all others is anyone can kill anyone.
Join a game from day one, join a squad with some high ranked players and immediately you are spawned where ever they are and in the thick of it.
There is no snobbery on the battlefield it is far to frantic for all that BS. The ranking system is purely for a single player achievement buzz in amongst your multi player game.

Another BF2 myth that is BS.
I am a Colonel and have All unlocks but Always use the Default medic weapon.
All the weapons are equally effective in different circumstances. The balance is lovely.
As far as only diehards being on that's rubbish as well. There are plenty of new guys joining BF2 as the game is now stable and runs on many more systems well. Also the standard system that is being used to run BF2 is Much better than the standard a year ago.

Think that's covered all questions. :p
Sorry a bit revved up as i just came out of 4-5 rounds IO on Jahalabad. Top stuff, gangs of us steaming about massive maps raiding flags, shooting the bejesus out of anything that moves.
What more can i say :cool:
