Is 'blacking up' racist?

I hope the guy who doesn't like grouping people never has to describe someone when they didn't know their name "erm yes, I'm looking for a human, have you seem them around?"

Ask them where the one eyed ginger pirate is hanging around is going to be a lot more productive when searching!

To me (I'm black) the whole golliwog thing came and went long before I was born (1984)... Although I do recall it being on jars of jam, it was never discussed on tv or any other form of media.

I doubt may people (younger than myself) even know what a gollywog is lol.

Suppose so. Still not very fitting to turn up as one at a Halloween party to a black lad you don't know!

Some very uptight people if that's considered racist.

I've been to a "black and white" party, and I went all "blacked up" including black clothes, and my friend (who is actually black) went "whited up" - it was a laugh.

Just have fun, you're not taking the ****, you're going to fancy dress as Mr T. What's the problem!?

Someone with sense!

Why thank you.

But its often something that I struck as odd.

Racism to me is how someone perceives certain situations. I never really understood people blaming things on being racist?

That doesn't mean that I agree with hurtful things that are said and done by certain people towards certain groups of people, I just don't think that most things that people class as being racist are actually racist.

My mum used to make golliwog dolls for people. They were really popular for some reason. Pretty sad that things get banned for not being PC.

As for the OP, of course it isn't racist. It might not be 'PC' though .

Op you better not do it bro cos

If Richard Branson reversed roles with Usain Bolt on the Virgin media ads I imagine complaints would flood in. Racism is often a one way street.

Agree.
Branson dressed up as a Chinese man in a new TV add but you don't hear the Chinese moaning about it ;)

It's all a bit of fun :)

Go for your life. I had a mate who went the whole hog as BA Baracus and it was considered hilarious by well, everyone, particularly as he's about 6ft 4 and built like a beanpole. He went 'browned up' by the way, not boot polish black.

Would look funny as a group.. not so funny when you're in the toilets... alone :/
