M8 is offering a skt 478 3.4ghz extreme edtion for £70 I have all the stuff to make another machine is it really worth £70

anyone know how fast this is to the current cpu's

could save the £70 toward's a new part for my up and coming machine

If it is a genuine 3.4ghz extreme edition for £70 I would buy it. Granted the slowest conroe will beat it in every benchmark but it is still a very capable CPU.

Even if you don't use it you will make your money back and more on egay.

I suppose you could hope to get about 4Ghz from it, but even then it would still be spanked by the slowest Conroe by a country mile.

Ask your mate why he's selling it - it's probably to buy a Conroe himself :p

had a look on his pc using cpu z it's a 3.4ghz Ex Edition he's still got the receipt with all items box and so on.

I bought the cpu :)

should have it out over the weekend, may not be the best cpu now still good for a back up machine.

There are still plenty of people with Skt 478 rigs, and the 3.4EE is the ultimate upgrade for that platform, so there will still be a market for that chip for a good while yet.

For £70 ish you can't do much better on S478, S939 has some good second hand bargains at that price (Just got a 4200 X2 for £70), but you'd need to change mobo too.

you have been robbed if it was sold as an extreme edition.

its just a standard prescott .. hence 1mb L2

didn't they do an extreme edition on the northwood core?

edit: ignore me, the 3.2EE seems to have 2mb l1 from what i can see?

The S478 3.2EE should have 512k L2 and 2mb L3. I'm not 100% but I think they were based on the Gallatin core aswell instead of the Northwood.
