Trying to recover one of my drives thats suddenly reading very slowly. Having read a few things ive heard Clonezilla takes workload off from windows and sort of simplfy's things when reading/writing from the source drive.

But... im currently 10 hours in and only 1.2% has been done.

Is this normal??

Not normal - but if as you say, your drive suddenly started reading very slowly then Clonezilla will be no different.

You don't say what sort of drive it is, but if a SATA hard drive or SSD, have you tried a different cable or SATA port?

Have you checked the drive's SMART Health stats using something like Crystal Disk Info?

Yea sorry its a 2tb external drive via USB 3.0.
Im not at my computer now but last time i looked it was at 80MB per minute!

I dont know how to stop Clonezilla without damaging the drive (if it does damage it stopping it).

I could try Crystal Disk info but would have to abandon what ive started.

It reads the drive but takes ages to get there.

I did notice yesterday it speeds up to so many GB's per minute then slowly decends again.

Im just try to salvage what i can if anything as everything is on it!

Lesson learned...

Leave it cloning then - if it's speeding up then it justs suggests there are a few bad sectors it's struggling with which keep slowing it down

There were quite a few bad sectors looking at it this morning. Ill have to google what a sector is. Other than that ill just keep it running.
