Is Crysis 'worth it' with this spec?

To cut a long story short, Crysis ran like a dog on my old system so i completed it on low settings and sold it. I've now finally upgraded, but by todays standards it's still a modest system. Specs are:

Q6600 @ 3.2ghz
4GB ram
5850

Will Crysis run 'well' on this or am I still way off the spec required to get it running smoothly with the majority of eye candy? I'll be playing on a 720p HDTV so relatively low resolution. My mouse is hovering over the buy button on the maximum edition.

Will run absolutely fine. I run it on high settings with 4xAA in 1920x1200 and 25-30fps on a Q6600, 4gig ram and a 5770.
Should have no issue running full tilt in 720p.

yeah and i'm pretty sure that figure will drop into the early teens in the later level, my 5850 on the last level struggles to hold mid 20's

Yeh it dropped down on the ice level but nowhere near as bad as I was expecting compared to playing it through the firsttime. The Ice levels killed my 8800gtx I had at the time lol. Think I dropped AA down to 2xAA on the later levels and was fine.

Granted I was running a graphics mod and some tweaks to what settings were on to get the right balance on visuals:framerate.

If you have a good sized monitor and are using HD quality (1920*1080) then you don't really need to use AA at all since the visual benefits would be minimal compared to the frames per second hit.
It'll run well with what you have at the moment but if you want to squeeze some more speed from it then mess with the setting that won't affect the visual flair of the game too much, like the shadows.

Thanks to those that responded. I've gone ahead and ordered it.

Now, here's hoping i can actually play it with a pad. Hoping to play it through on my HDTV via HDMI with surround sound using a pad, something i couldn't do previously due to the VGA out losing so much picture quality over a long cable.

It works 100% with the 360 pad make sure it is plugged in b4 you start the game and the game will detect it:)

Im suprised how well it runs on my system

i3 @4.4ghz
8GB Ram and a highly oc'd GTS 450 :D

All details on max with 4xAA

ill report back with FPS

Lol I run it with a 5850 got cool around 30fps whole game...

Completely bugged out the last half of the last level though...

Simple solution however, if you do get issues drop it into direct x 9 mode will increase fps by loads and it wont look to much different. Will run fine with your setup in direct x 10 though at 720p.

get more or less constant above 30FPS with custom settings, edge AA (since normal AA doesn't really work!) playing 1080P resolution, DX10 on Q6600 at 3.6Ghz and 4870X2, no notable slowdown in the later parts of the game as long as the patches are applied, was juddery as hell before version 1.1 was released. :D

Given we all played, completed and forgot about Crysis when it came out in 2007 running 8800's I'm sure you'll manage.

The things is that even with a 8800 (which i had btw, 8800GT), crysis never really ran that well. In a way i guess it was ahead of its time, now people finally have access to hardware that will let them run it 'well'. I personally never forgot about it as i'm a massive fan of eye candy but despise paying for high end equipment, all the way through i couldn't help but think 'yes it's pretty, but i'm running it on low settings so i wonder...'

I'm still dubious that a Q6600 will be enough, but i guess i'll see in 5-7 days :)

I just ran through Crysis on my new build i5 2500k 4Gb RAM EVGA GTX 570.

I put everything on max setttings but

I have the steam version and it would crash every 30 mins or so.
i found out that the Steam version is only 32 bit and the retail is 64 bit.

To sort this out i had to run the game in DX9 and it seemed to work or mabe i had a bad install or something

I didn't, I waited a year until I had a GTX280.

Also, the OP has specifically requested "running smoothly with the majority of eye candy", which I doubt many people managed on a 8800 series card - at least not by my definition of smoothly, not even my GTX280 could manage that.

I wouldn't class Crysis as running particularly well on high even on a single GTX 280, only time I actually felt it was playing smoothly was with GTX 280 SLI.

Just beaten by Hangtime :p

Ah yes I forgot that the first time I tried it. I started playing it using mouse and keyboard and my controller was plugged in on the floor.
I was playing along thinking "wtf is that vibration noise I keep hearing" :p
Damn controller!
