Is everything all right?

If they are annoying me I ask them to leave me alone until I call for them. Simple. What's the point in sitting there being badgered and raging inside when you are paying for a meal and service?

They come in groups!

Polite to ask once in a shop, a couple of times in a restaurant in a night.

I hate going into shops and being pestered. You really get this abroad when people try and sell you stuff. I usually leave even if I would have bought something and buy it somewhere else.

People need to learn. No need for it here though

come to belgium and try to buy a TV see how much you get pestered. You'll be lucky to get served let alone pestered hehe :p

I don't mind the waitress coming over to ask if everything is all right generally I use this opportunity to order more drink.

:p

I think the reason this happens a lot in Chinese and Indian restaurants is that they can then slip in the "do you want more drinks"?

Next time, say "My wife is leaving me, I caught gonorrhea off my brother in law and my man thong has just dissappeared but apart from that, fine thanks" :)

Got this at Denny's in Florida. Got asked "You guys OK?" every minute.

Can't blame 'em though, they know there's tips to be had.

when i used to work in a restruant, i used to ask once the meal had been finished once i was clearing the table (every course).

if there was something up usual someone will look over or something will be obvious

Actually what I find really annoying si the waiter that serves your food then dissapears for 15 minutes before coming back to check on you.

If there was something wrong it will be wrong pretty darned quick so ask me in the first few minutes!!

One check per course is pretty much the best - as long as they are keeping an eye on my glass in the meantime!

If it wasn't I would have said so.

Going out for a Chinese meal the other night the waiter must have come over to our table four times asking the same question: "Is everything OK?"

Of course it's bloody OK, what do you think's giong to happen? I know that for a waiter there's a fine line to tread between being underattentive and overattentive but surely they can employ some common sense. I remember going to a Turkish restaurant once where we were badgered every five minutes by the waiters asking if everything was all right. Yes it's fine, thanks. Thanks. Thank you. Yes, thanks.

Is it me who just comes up against this? Has anyone else and I am alone in thinking it's extremely annoying? Once per main course is fine, not once per forkful. I'm amazed they can't see how irritating it is.

Chill out mate, he is just being polite. :)

I once heard they had to ask if everything was ok once you had started to eat your meal, because if they hadn't and you finished your meal, you could technically get it free... maybe a load of tosh, but it's their form of 'contract' that you're happy and therefore required to pay.

I read that on here though... which holds as much weight as wiki.

I'm sure there's some rule where they are supposed to ask you once when you've eaten half of your meal as that's the cut off point where legally you could say 'no it's not all right, it's cold' or whatever.

I could be completely making that up though.

Edit: beaten to it :(
