Is Eyefinity worth it?

This is for the people who have eyefinity, I apreciate the opinions of those who don't but I really need a good solid arguement to convince my gf to let me get this, she doesn't understand why you'd need 3 monitors and says that if I get it then I have to buy her 3 TV's. I tried to explain to her that it's not the same but without any success!

Would 3 cheap monitors like these ones work alright?

The whole point of having an eyefinity set up is to give yourself a massive panoramic view. The resolution is ultra wide so you can see all around you, and obviously to add that immersive feel to the game.

You will need a powerful ATI card to achieve decent results because running a large resolution over 3 monitors is going to give the game you currently play on one screen quite a bit of a performance hit.

Use wiki to find out more, or go to the grahics card section and search for eyefinity set up. I think you have to have one of the monitors from your display port, the others can be DVI and HDMI... I haven't really looked into it that much, because I prefer good high framerates!!! :) and a big single screen...

Go for the 28 inch Hanns G and tell her she is right... they love that!! :)

I had eyefinity with the system spec you see in my sig. It was good, but nowhere near as good as i thought it would be. The problem is that one 5970 isn't enough to game at 6048x1200 with AA on newer titles, and TriFire / Quadfire doesn't work in eyefinity

I sold two of my 24" monitors about 2 months after buying them all. When it worked it was great (BFBC2) but i was surprised and disappointed by how many titles DIDN'T work.

Multi monitors are great for using windows though.

EDIT - if you do go for it, don't use 20" monitors (especially those Samsungs you mentioned, massive bezels!!), they are too small and the bezels may irritate you. 22" minimum, but i think anything less than 24" monitors is a bit of a waste. Also, you will need one of those powered mini displayport to dvd adapters which are like rocking horse ****. I sold mine on the Bay for £125

They do take up a stupid amount of space on your desk though - something to bear in mind! I'm back to using a single 24" screen now, and to be honest i'm pretty happy about it. No more messing around with bezel management or games crashing / not working properly

Eyefinity for me is more about having more desktop space for all my applications. Browser one side, text editor in another, everything else in the other.

Though I currently have two... I want three.

p.s. Why do you need to justify spending your own money to your gf?

It depends what your doing IMO... flightsim games its just epic, car racing games as well pretty decent. For fps games I don't like it at all.

Bare in mind I'm basing my thoughts mostly on nVidia surround, tho I have seen/used other people eyefinity setups too.

If you have the space to have 3 screens, even if they are square screens, then do it. Is it worth it? er yes! how would having 3 times the screen space not be worth it?! Even where I work we use 3 screens.

I am always flicking between TABS, email, music and apps... having 2 screens makes life easier and having 3 is just a blessing. as for games, next time you go out for a drive, play paintball or just walk down the street try and imagen how much of your view would be lost if you wore something like horses wear and only allows them to look forwards! having 3 screens gives you back your vision, once you play a game with 3 screens its impossible to go back.

IMO people spend 100s or 1000s on updating their PC yet they ignor the screen and speakers. everything you do involves you monitor(s) and speakers. if you brought surround sound then it makes sense surely to buy surround vision ??

If you can spend the money. Buy 2 Nivida cards, buy 3 3D monitors and buy Nvidia 3D vision... 3D Surround vision = heaven (if only I could afford it)

SHORT ANSWER: Do it, Do it now
