Is F1 the fastest motorsport...?

Fastest land based motorsport overall is top fuel drag racing with engines producing around 7-8000bhp, 0-100mph in less than a second and top speeds of up to about 333mph.

Top speed overall, although technically not a sport would be land speed records, aka Thrust SSC.

Have you seen that Honda though? It was a project they built and ran on the salt flats in America. It has an aero setup that would be un-usable on track (no rear wing, tiny front wing, etc). A Le Mans car in race trim has a higher top speed than an F1 car due to reduced drag from much lower downforce and covered wheels.

I know a top fuel dragster will also beat an F1 car at top speed, but I was going for 1 critera per car.

nope, hadnt seen it. i just knew of its existance and that it met the FIA spec. dragsters beat them by miles anyway so its not a major point in the 'which motorsport has the best top speed' discussion

I think they have the pneumatic jacks built into the car as they do in WTCC/BTCC? So the car just stops and raises itself.

IIRC the jacks are built in but without a compressor, so an airline has to be connected to lift the cars up.

@OP overall f1 cars are the fastest, but if going by individual categories then they're slower:

Acceleration - Top fuel dragster
Top speed - LMP1
Cornering - Red bull air race aerobatic planes
Pit stops - DTM

What, like strapping a jet engine to the roof? :-)

lol it'd need a lot of money but i've no doubt its possible.

He was asking which motorsport is fastest, and since top fuel dragsters have a top speed of over 300mph and a 0-100 time of 0.7 seconds, they're fastest. You said that lmp1 had the highest top speed in your list so it confused me as to why you said that. Thats all :)

Ahh was just listing stuff thats faster than f1 lol :) On a completely off topic note what body kit has the car in your sig got? Looks sweet :)
