Is FREESYNC worth the change back?

Hey guys,

So recently I have been contemplating weather or not to change my GPU from the GTX 1060 back to AMD, specifically the RX 480.

I ask because I have the AOC G2460PF monitor (which is great BTW) and wonder if FREESYNC on this will make a difference to warrant the change back to AMD?

If someone can shed some light on this it would be much appreciated.

I do love Freesync but I'd say it isn't worth it as you'd be making a lose selling the GTX 1060 to get a RX 480. If you could do a trade with someone with no cost then it would be certainly worth it.

Oh! Someone with the exact monitor I need questions answered about!

How are the colours on it?
Is there weird pink ghosting on the desktop?

hi, the colours are ok, not the greatest vibrancy TBH..and regards to the pink ghosting i have noticed non as such..hope this helps...

was having a think guys, i only play CS GO on my machine now, hardly anything else, would a RX 460 be good enough for this game at 1080p?

as i can use the rest of the money to put to my XBOX and if i decide to change my GPU, hopefully a more powerful RX will be out if my needs for it arises?

also, bare in mind my change thinking coming to the RX for the FREESYNC..

That's a shame I was thinking of getting one. My advice on the Xbox is not to bother as most of the Xbox one exclusives will becoming to Windows 10

Defo worth it. Even at 144hz freesync makes a big difference to my eyes!

Be aware Freesync only works in fullscreen exclusive mode. If you enjoy playing in windowed fullscreen mode, freesync will not work.

Tried just turning on FastSync in NCP?

Although I rate Free/G-Sync very highly, doesn't CSGO run at a higher fps over the sync range(>144Hz) most of the time and wouldn't be of use anyway?

If so, then there's not much point at all changing gpu's.

Imagine CSGO users will be running with FS/G-Sync off.

Not worth the change, especially if you only play CS:GO. If you are a decent CS:GO player you will be turning off freesync. For multiplayer FPS shooters frame rate is king.

Not worth the downgrade.

You mean side grade for DX11 and upgrade for DX12 (with Async compute) & Vulcan?

On top that the card will serve him well years to come with full driver support from AMD.
While the 1060 will bite the dust as soon as next gen is out.

What is the Freesync range of the monitor? You may just end up not using Freesync as it would cap your FPS too low (or just not work).

Do you notice any screen tearing or frame skips currently that would make you want to go Freesync?

As others have said, i don't think it's worth buying a card new over... but if you can get a cheap rx480 then go for it.

I have an RX480 and game @ cs:go 1080p. I generally get around 200 (250-300 when in a tight space or doing nothing) fps but at times it goes a little under when in big places with a few models on screen. Nuke can go a little lower. Never lower than 150fps steadily really. I think the lowest I would go is an RX480 for 1080p. I only play CS:GO too :)

btw I have i3 6100 so not the best CPU.

If I was the OP I would have gotten the RX480 in the first place as they already had a FreeSync screen. However unless they can get the GTX1060 refunded with little to no loss,I probably would not be bothered as much as they need to consider they will be loosing a decent amount if they sell the card.

I thought freesync/Gsync just turned into Vsync once you hit the refresh rate of your monitor?

Nope it doesn't. And in the case of freesync, vsync should be off.
While running the Nano and the 295X2 had set cap the 144hz the monitor supported also. Not to have tearing etc when the cards dish more than that.
