Is G-Sync Worth The Price Tag?

Same goes for AMDs offering freesync, difference with that is freesync monitors seem to be a fair bit cheaper.

True, I've seen people with Nvidia GPUs get FreeSync monitor's just because the monitor is good. That said, I think the range (of frequency/framerate) FreeSync works at is smaller compared to the range G-sync works at.

Are g-sync monitors at 144hz only worth it if you're running games at 144fps?

I'm thinking of going g-sync but I don't think i'll be upgrading my GPU that frequently so I can achieve that fps with all games.

You gain significant benefits at anything from about 80fps upwards over a 60Hz panel - obviously the max benefit is being able to run 144fps solid but its not mandatory to make G-Sync worth it. Personally I get a lot out of it from being able to run games that are capped at 60fps due to G-Sync meaning I don't have to make the compromise between latency or tearing that I otherwise would have to.

If you've ever had problems with tearing or frame rate stuttering within games then G-Sync will help massively and probably change your life. If you haven't (or haven't noticed) then probably not.

I would also say that as you go up in refresh rate it becomes more and more necessary. At 144Hz i think you'd have a bad time without G-Sync.

Yes. Freesync has 2 main drawbacks:
1. Lower range it operates in
2. Only usable in fullscreen mode. (so if you play a game in windowed mode, it will NOT benefit from adaptive/free sync)

As always, Freesync is great value, but if you want the best, money no object option, G-Sync is (currently) the way to go
