Is G0 that important?

I really want to upgrade my PC and the Quad core will significantly improve my work for my research. I am dithering at the moment, holding out for the G0s but I am starting to question wether they are really worth waiting for.

I doubt I will OC above 3ghz to be honest...

What do you think?

If you need it for work, what are you waiting for?!

It won't make THAT much difference, just supposed to use a little less power and hence run a little cooler.

Current stepping should do 3ghz no problem?

I was led to believe it will make a difference for overclocking quad core
as they run a bit too hot as it is.

In other words, no its not important, people seemed to be expecting some kind of massive difference but its only a few c at best.

So if I want to run one around 2.8ghz-3ghz on a Noctua it would be fine really?

Depends on the voltage needed, i dunno if my noctua base was concave or what but my temps with it (92mm version) were pretty crap.

That is my understanding, yes.

I think a G0 will only really help when you're at the extremes of the overclocking spectrum.

There are enough reliable posts on here showing people running current steppings at 3ghz for it not to be an issue.
