is Guild wars 2 still worth the money?

I was very disappointed with GW2, so much so that I have resubbed wow and am loving it. The combat is very bad, the pve is very poor, however the world design is amazing, shame about the rest.

i am very happy with gw2. as said before, best mmo i have ever played. i hated WOW with a passion. dull gameplay, graphics and animation. did not enjoy ti as it felt like a chore and just wasnt fun.

RIFT had huge potential but got grindy and bored very quickly. GW2 is far from it. its different. unique, refreshing and up to date.

each to their own

Only thing I slightly agree with there is PvE part.....but then the game is in its infancy....but if your a keen PvE player then WoW is far superior in terms of end game PvE. (in my opinion)

But the combat is not rubbish.....WoW combat is rotate the same buttons over and over to get the best dps.....Guild Wars is similar but with dodging and weapon switching to mix it up.

For me, the perfect game would be WoW style PvE Raiding and bosses, set in a Guild Wars 2 World (art style) and Guild Wars 2 questing system and Guild Wars 2 PvP/WvW....but with factions like WoW or rather guilds can declare war on each other and fight in the world.

I also prefer the Wow system of Gear actually means something rather than just cosmetic in terms of making you more powerful.

These are all just my preferences though....im not in anway saying this is how Guild Wars 2 should be. :D

And there lies the flaw on many peoples argument. comparing a 1-2month old mmo to a 10 year old MMO with 4 expansion packs or more? plus a million updates and new content thrown over the years is quite foolish IMO.

you simply cannot expect gw2 to have same amount of end game content.

the game itself takes 100+hours to level up to max. that is a lot and is the same time it took "vanila wow" to max level.

why dont people compare like for like? if u wish to compare gw2 to wow, compare it to vanila wow, when it was first released.

Woah....dont need to get all defensive...I clearly put "in my opinion".....ALSO unless there are plans to insert Raiding or something similar into GW2 then it wont be as good in terms of things to do for players who are 80 in terms of PvE, unless you enjoy doing 5 man dungeons over and over!..again, in my opinion....as thats what I personally enjoy as end game content.

Im not saying GW2 should implement this...its doing things its own way and in its own flavour and im enjoying the game in gerneral.

BUT you mention comparing GW2 to WoW Vanilla......but Vanilla WoW is years old....yes its had time to polish and add expansion packs, but in 2012 if the GW2 devs wanted to add RAIDS or something of the like, they could have....they dont have to wait 3 years to add them in over expansion packs.

Please do note that im not asking for GW2 to change or add things in.....im just giving my opinion on the things to do at 80 from a PvE perspective.....if they add more things in future patches then great.....just as it is right now, im just running dungeons over and over when im home to get tokens.

The leveling PVE and open world PvE content is great and there is loads of it....even if it is a bit easy and the PvP & WvW is great....im not saying that there is a lack of content or anything of the sort.

Im only saying if you are into end game PvE at this exact moment in time, WoW is better....but whos to say that in a years time GW2 isnt better?

yea mate hope that helps. i personaly love this game.

here is a more important question though. will this game fail ie numbers dropped a load and no one plays it? Or will it be a great WOW alternative?

I think the numbers will drop but I don't think that means it's failed. I think the numbers would rise again when new content is released and that's the way it should be really. With no subscription there is no need to be playing it all the time to feel like you're getting your value for money.

im not being defensive. i too said "IMO"

Again i just feel that it is not fair to expect lots of end game stuff to do on a 2month old mmo. again MY OPINION.

these games need time to develope new end game content. Did u play GW1? if so, did u know that 2-3 of the expansion packs that where released for that game were "end game specific" ie offering a whole new world, quests etc etc to explore for max level chars only?

i think we need to wait and see and try to judge the game based on level 1-80. if your enjoyment was none existance and u hated the game from 1-80 that is fair. But if hit max level and expect lots of things and content to do it is infair imo.

give it time. ArenaNet are not all of a sudden going to abandon the game and start working on GW3

Yeah I do understand that....im willing to give the game time....im not complaining as such, so if it came across that way then apologies.

Its the only game im playing currently (apart from Fifa 13) and im enjoying it, I was just giving my opinion on what would make it perfect for me as things move forward....

Doing WvW with my guild last weekend was awesome fun.

I do hope as time goes on they bring out content that you can get a group of your guildies together and tactically work to bring down or achieve that isnt PvP, as for me its the only part of the game that is slightly less in comparison to PvP, and the leveling experience.

We shall see.

u play fifa 13? same here. im in the process of creating a league

I really can't understand how people say GW2 is boring. Take it slow guys, get your moneys worth.

I am only level 25 and playing with my younger bro who is only level 10 right now, we only play once per week so we are going to be playing for a long time. I don't get how people have maxed this game out already.

Anyway, yeh it is a great game! I have never played an MMO before and my brother is the last person that would play one yet he is addicted to it, I love the fact that we can move while attacking.

you play once a week and your questioning how people have maxed out? lol ok...
to the op, games worth getting, it has its frustrating issues but then all mmos do , just dont go in expecting perfection. Im enjoying it more now that im 80 - questing is rough as you like/ Tera was a lot more refreshing

I do indeed, in between GW2 when I get time :)

Ill warn you....im very good! ;)

I would say im average at most games...but when it comes to Fifa, its the game im very good at.

But only the normal game....not any of this play as a pro stuff, where you in a 3rd person view of a player.

What does the league involve...never got involved in anything like that, usually just play career or 1v1 online quickmatch.

Everyone I play LoL with was hyped for and bought it, I joined them.
£37 I will never see again, to me it just felt like another MMO. Combat mechanics were interesting but feel a bit limited and get repetitive quickly, nothing else to me felt "refreshing" - same old tired MMO format just hidden behind the 'seamless' questing mechanic.
Of course, my history of playing WoW from its very initial US release date (not every single year since, mind you) quite possibly jaded me to say this. I just can't seem to click with the atmosphere of Guild Wars, it feels tacky and bland, WoW at least differed with its cartoonish style that didn't feel it was attempting to be realistic at all.

I also found it impossible to communicate with anyone who I wasn't talking on skype with, not that the game is to blame for this but just another reminder of how odious most of the MMO community has become.

Guess your just bored of the Genre then.....I played WoW quite hardcore for about 4 years and that drained my love for the genre somewhat.
