Is Half life 2 any good?

In your opinion. I always thought Far Cry was the most impressive FPS of that era. Hl2 felt like a physics demo a lot of the time.

And yet the mavity Gun was 1 of the most fun and original weapons in recent years... they probably put in the odd physics puzzle a bit too often but physics demo? Bull****.

Indeed the mavity gun was good, but that was the only good one. On hard everything else was like pea shooter...... which was a huge disappointment compared to the awesome weaponry in the first game.

It's boring, it's linear, story is nothing amazing, Alyx is annoying (*incredibly* cliched dialogue), too many physics see-saw puzzles, mavity gun is a gimmick, horrible vehicle sections, boring end section, rubbish AI

It completely pales to the first game which is fantastic

Have to admit I did have to force myself to complete HL2 in the vague hope that it was going to get better and be worthy of the insanely high scores it recieved from zone/gamer.
It really didnt, though in comparison to HL1 and Farcry its definitely sat at the bottom of the pile. Far too linear and far too much "going through the motions" with the repetitive physics puzzles and pretty much zero variation of enemy.
Hell I'd say Goldeneye 64 was a better fps

you didn't like it then :D

doesnt have enough cut scenes , seems to open world it needs more corridors , some of the physics puzzles make me want to eat my own head , the guns have recoil , i dont have a team constantly opening doors for me and showing me where to go.

Then perhaps you were using them wrong. Magnum headshots were instakill. Crossbow bolts were instakill. Double barelled shotgun blasts were awesome close range. Pistols could headshot reliably. SMG and Overwatch Rifle didn't do a great deal of damage which easily got you shot but then this isn't realism inspired.

Fantastic game. It's a testament to Valve that they can make people wait this long for Ep3 and people will still buy it in their droves. Okay some of it IS a bit boring, particularly some of the vehicle sections and areas of Nova Prospekt, but half the enjoyment playing it, for me, was looking around at all the little things and the attention to detail during the journey itself. I hadn't played many other games before (bar HL1 obviously) that felt like you were in a fully fleshed out world rather than working your way through a level, even if it was a fairly linear path, although done in a way where it never felt too obvious.

Did anyone ever download those huge 'commentary' videos this guy called Goosie (I think) on the Steam Forums did? The guy didn't even like FPS but was completely won over with the world they created and they're three good mementos to cherish the game by.

Brilliant game, still wondering what happens next. Unfortunately Valve are really taking their time with episode 3. They should have tried to get it out while the story was fresh?

But I suspect they are struggling to find a decent ending worthy of this epic series of games.
