I am thinking of renting a flat in Hayes, Greater London. Will I be stabbed to death or is it an alright place to live. (I don't know where anything in London is).

Thanking you, Ross :)

You'll be dead within an hour of moving in........

I don't actually know what it is like either, probably like the rest of London and safe enough unless you are a gangbanger.

Hayes is a decent enough place. Certainly safer than many parts of inner London.

Quite cultured as well. Golf clubs, football clubs, cricket grounds, botanic gardens, open air theatres. You'll always have something to do!

And if (like most men), you like military planes and thingies, RAF Northolt is only up the road for a spot of Eurofighter spotting.

I work at the bottom end of Hayes, just past Hayes & Harlington station. It's generally fine but when we walk into town to grab some lunch, there is a distinct lack of native Brits walking around. I am a foreigner myself so I have no room to talk, but you asked and I'm telling.

The top-end of Hayes, near the Beck theatre, is quite nice.

Are you moving there because you got a job with a certain Hayes-based IT hosting company?

Well if you tell me what areas in particular you're looking at I can give you definite yesses an noes.

I've grown up here so I'm familiar with where the good parts are and where the places you may want to avoid are.

Very cultured by the way, in some places.

Edit: ^^^ I probably see you all the time without noticing. Hello :)

Thanks very much :) BTW I am tied between Hayes and Ealing if that helps. Also I plan on cycling five miles to Brentford for work.

East avenue? Does cultured mean people of other cultures? I don't mind that at all.

Nah I got a job in Brentford/Osterley. Thanks for the info though :P

East Avenue, have a friend that lives there actually. It's a nice one if its house a bit further in (away from the main bustle of the high street, traffic, buses, people etc)

It's conveniently close to a lot of shops, bus stop and the rail station. You shouldn't be worried about getting hurt at night if you're a responsible person. I've not had an issue.

Edit: Mind you there's a pub around there somewhere, though whenever I walk past that one nobody is causing any trouble.

Ealing's probably just a nicer place in general.

Like in terms of "dodgy factor" Hayes has mild dodgy attributes and Ealing not so much. You'd probably complain less, that's for sure.

My girlfriend's family live in Hayes.
It's very multicultural and fairly safe, nothing wrong with the area from what I've seen.
