Is IE7 safe to use? I thought so??

Well Microsoft has publicised the APIs that allow IE7 to run in protected mode on Vista so nothing is stopping Firefox and Opera from implementing these ;) I'd guess given a few months and those browsers will also have a larger security detail than Fort Knox. Seriously, protected mode is really, really, really, really good.

Seriously, I'm not even installing firefox on vista.
i'd have no problem using IE7 all the time on vista (or XP as it does the same thing on that too) but i dont like when you save your sessions (tabs) and then when you reopen it, it decides to open a new homepage as well as the existing tabs.

if they can sort that out, i'd use IE7 all the time.

Yeah there's still a few things they need to add to IE to catch up with the rivals in usability. But based on the topic of this thread: nothing touches it anymore.

but the OP's machine isnt on vista as it currently has IE6, so no fancy protected mode there surely?
Accept that but IE7 is already a secure browser without protected mode. They spent 1.5 years auditing the code and locking everything down.

Protected mode is just a "catch-all" incase something is discovered (as I'm sure there will be)
