Is Intel Burn Test a good program to check for temps?

Hi,
I am trying to overclock my e6600 further and my brothers (currently stock) q9550. Both Pc's have the artic freezer 7 pro on an Asus P5Q. My case is an Antec 300, his is some other Antec one that is much larger than the 300.

IBT makes his quad hit 80c per core and meakes my 3ghz e6600 hit nearly 70.

Is IBT (either version 1 or 2) a good stress test program? I read somewhere that it is to harsh on the cpu or something.

I have many been using IBT to check core temps when using a new overclock.

Thanks:)

Its great if you want to know what the worst case scenario is. If it'll never fold, or do much more than idle, the temps hit in ibt don't matter much.

It's harder on your machine than prime 95. I think this is a good thing for a stress test, the only "bad" test I know of is furmark killing some ati cards which would probably have otherwise lasted for years. Ibt won't kill anything, though it will run the processor very hot indeed :)

I like it for quick stability testing, though i still prefer to use prime 95 small fft and blend for 8 hours minimum. IBT tends to generate higher temps than prime, 5-7c in my case.

I have not used prime for years! I will download it and give it a go.

Orthos tends to be about 70c but IBT goes to 100c on my cpu at 3.6ghz.
I have artic silver 7 and the cooler is seated ok but the case has poor airflow.
IBT just seems to send my e6600 temps crazy.
