With new chips from both Intel and AMD imminent, is it really a bad time to upgrade the CPU/Mobo/Ram.

I currently have
Q6600 @ 3.24GHz (stock volts)
Abit IP-35 Pro (bolt modded)
4 GB OCZ Reaper PC8500

Rest of the system
AMD HD6950 (unlocked shaders and over clocked)
X-Fi xtream gamer
Samsumg F3 1TB HDD
Benq 24" HDBL
CPU & GPU on custom water loop
TJ07 case
:D

AMD certainly have a new CPU line due next month. But I don't think intel have their ivy bridge due for a few months at least. At the end of the day, if you want a new CPU now then go for it. There is always something new around the corner whenever you buy. The sandy bridge chips are great and will still be great when the new ones come out.

I always say rule of thumb is if your current rig is stopping you running the games you want to run at decent fps then no, its not a bad time to upgrade.

I also agree there is always something new round the corner in this game, so you can be waiting forever and a day. With upgrading your rig, it always feels like the best time to do it is next month.

With my current spec I get about 50-70 fps with BFBC2 with all the bells and whistles turned on(4xAA 1080p) so not bad!
I hope Intel will drop the price a bit at least with the next AMD cpu release.
