Is it duck tape or duct tape?

I've always used duct.

Duct tape (sometimes called duck tape; see under Etymology) is a vinyl, fabric-reinforced, multi-purpose pressure sensitive tape with a soft and tacky pressure sensitive adhesive. Isn't Duck tape the make and Duct the type. I've definitely seen "Duck" on the packaging of Duct tape.

Duct tape, but there is a brand of Duct Tape called Duck Tape, so both are technically correct, just use the first one to refer to generic Duct tape

Well I bought some Duck Tape from Homebase, it was a brand of Duct Tape. I guess either should work.
