Is it just me or does anyone else hate the sniper mission in COD4?

I am a bit pived about the fact that not matter how accurate you try to be with the big sniper rifle, all you can ever do is blow of his arm?

What is the point of it? Surely they should let you head shot him if you can do it.

A great game that is faulty slighty by this lockdown bit of action

well to be honest i am playing it on the 360, but i thought it was one of the best missions.

i cant wait to play it again as i will now know where to place the claymores for max effect :)

Yeah, it's a bit stupid to be honest, but it is a flash back. It's the mission I enjoyed the most though.

I didn't really like the SP game all to much, it's scripted to much and linear, physics may as well be non existent and it's not as good as the 1st Call of Duty game, it's far too arcady now, I blame consoles for it. Enemies just keep coming until you reach/pass a certain point, etc.

Took me a while to get that 1 shot right, it is a bit annoying that u cant do worse than blow off his arm, also when the heli comes, if u shoot the pilot the prop catches on fire :P but in general that level was fantastic, sneaking and running past all the guys

The point of shooting his arm off is because its part of the game. Its not a time travelling game where you can change the past. If you shot him in the head then he would be dead and not able to be in the future part of the game. Which sort of ends the game as its all revolved around him.

That is the point!

i don't get why people complain about it being so scripted and linear. i'm not sure i can name an fps that is non linear, and very few are any less linear. half life series, doom3, mohaa and all its sequels, quakes, every single fps almost is just as linear as this game. scripted events happen in all games, and help to shape the feel of the game, without scripted events it would mostly suck. infact, even the less linear games, like oblivion and the likes are chock full of scripted events.

as for more people pilling in to help control points of the battlefield in an attempt to keep the enemy out, you'd be really miffed if you got drafted in world war 3. "but captain, its really irritating me, they keep trying to win the fight, its so unrealistic, surely they should just give up when the first man dies?".

personally i find the spawning till you take area's fairly realistic, doesn't work in every instance because, on some maps they come out of area's that could easily be reserves coming to the front lines. but on some they do appear to come out of no where. but ti would become a very long task of map design to make every single area logistically capable of providing support.

how many times in these games, all of them, do you have missions where WE play as a character who is pushed into the front lines where people were ALREADY fighting before we got there, WE were the reserve fighters pushed into battle to help keep control of a point and fend off enemy attacks. almost every war game has missions where you are this reserve helping, it makes complete sense that when you attack they bring up extra people to defend. thats war.

I was going to post but you've summed up my opinion quite nicely there drunkenmaster!

To be honest my two niggles with the game are only minor. I love snping and as such would love the sniper with scope AND silencer in the multiplayer but it doesn't seem to be achievable even with the rank upgrades. The silencer should be an optional in game add-on once you win rights to use it. IE: you can put it on or remove it as per Rainow Six for improved accuracy. Snipers are supposed to be hard to find instead of looking for the muzzle flash and listening for the crack of the shot. My only other niggle is that the AC-130 mission was an absolute hoot and there is not enough of it and no access to it in the multiplayer. Never had so much fun and so brilliantly done with the thermal imaging. Great game and runs like a dream totally maxed out.

I loved this mission. Was something ive never really played in a game before, it was awesome using that huuuge sniper rifle. I loved just sitting there waiting for the spotter to give me the go ! :)

Yup stuck on the ferris wheel bit myself until I got stuck into the multiplayer which rocks. Just want a scoped, silenced sniper now

no really, COD 1 and 2 were like this too. its terrible.

you see laods of men coming out of x house, throw a grenade in and go inside.. empty...5 mins later men start pouring out again?!! how does that make any sense? it was an EMPTY HOUSE, they arent coming in trucks from the backline... its a spawn point..

After you have killed the men in a village, the village should be quiet, until backup turns up.. in trucks so to give you opportnity to ambush, or so they can ambush you.

Either you missed the masterpiece - Operation FlashPoint, or deny its brilliance in the face of COD!

aye, best mission tbh, the scripted team mate when legging it through that patrol is just amazing!
