Or are you sick of having text all over your hardware? The motherboard especially... just why? It's no use to me, and i doubt it's of use to the manufacturer. It would look much neater if it was just plain. Save on the ink as well, or whatever they use. And the case, i don't want a sticker or a badge on the front telling me who made it. I want it to be as clean as possible. Same goes for the DVD Drive and lots of other components... who's with me?

Just free marketing for them I suppose, bit like branded clothing (assuming we're talking about cases and the like with "super leet gaming brand x" printed on it)

How would N00Bs know where to place connectors on the motherboard if there was no text.? :p

That's just it though, it doesn't give instructions, all it does is give random numbers and names of chips and components that are of no consequence to you. And say the type of RAM it takes, which it pointless...

... are you serious about PCB markings?

How would you place components onto the board? You do realise that they are checked via camera systems in order to quality control? I used to work in electronic manufacturing and I can say that having no PCB markings would cause hell for production. Anyway I find PCB markings a great help on the board, never read a motherboard manual because of it.

If anything it would increase cost if they were too remove it!

If you RMA them, they know the size of ressistor, cap's etc ;)

to replace them or something like that ;)

Yeah... but its a lot harder to match up blueprint with board than just look at the one you're working with?

I mean I was placing 0603 components by hand.. and that was hard enough! See here for size - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:SMT_sizes_by_Zureks.png

The components on my current motherboard are unthinkable to place by hand, especially if I was doing a run of 1000/1500 boards like the old days!

If hard drives had no labels it would be hell telling which is which. Similar idea with the motherboards, it's useful having the 'blueprints' written on the board.

As for "GIGABYTE" stamped repeatedly across the heatsinks, it annoys me a lot less than all the leds splattered across the board to tell me the processor is 'cool', 'warm' or 'too hot'.

Definitely with you on that one, recently bought a sony optiarc AD-7240S because it was the plainest i could find, other's have white text such as Samsung SH-S223B and LG GH22NS40. Picky i know but i want my case as clean as possible.

That reminds me of something I've often wondered. You see those high-end enthusiast boards that have special heat-sinks and such; often you (used to at least), see a big plastic decorative thing on top with the board name / manufacturer emblazoned on it... It just struck me that it would surely be having a negative impact on thermal performance clagging a plastic chunk on top of the heat-sinks...

Then again they are often gimmicky or make little difference to performance so I suppose it doesnt matter too much

And for anyone trying to figure out what the heck something is and what it's supposed to do.
And that would the easiest part with real fun starting when you would have to find certain component of diagram from PCB or the reverse!
Five surgeons are discussing who makes the best patients to operate on.
The first surgeon says, "I like to see accountants on my operating table, because when you open them up, everything inside is numbered."
The second responds, "Yeah, but you should try electricians! Everything inside them is color coded."
The third surgeon says, "No, I really think librarians are the best; everything inside them is in alphabetical order."
The fourth surgeon chimes in: "You know, I like construction workers those guys always understand when you have a few parts left over at the end, and when the job takes longer than you said it would."
But the fifth surgeon shut them all up when he observed: "You're all wrong. Politicians are the easiest to operate on. There's no guts, no heart, and no spine, and the head and butt are interchangeable."

Picky i know but i want my case as clean as possible.
Then you should get door equipped Lian Li.

Either the door opens or the drive fails to. The door isn't stupid, the man who bought a case with a door but doesn't want a door is stupid. :p

That is an excellent quote EsaT.
