is it me being paranoid?

Hi folks, I just had a sandybridge system built OC to 4.60ghz, it was delivered with the gtx 580 gpu outside so it doesn't get broken in transit, all good.

I open the tower to put the gpu card in and notice that one of the cables inside is extremely tight from the bottom left corner to top right corner and its very tight and sitting on the blue asus chipset and with gpu plugged in its pressed on top of the chipset and underneath the graphics card.

Now I'm a total pc noob. Does this part of the pc get hot? (the chipset) I'm worried that whoever built it has maybe not given enough length on the cable so its very tight and across the chipset, is the cable likely to melt or does this not matter?

Hello and welcome to the forum.

The heatsink will oe should not get that hot in order to melt the cable.

What system system did you buy, it might be worth placing a note in the customer forum.

Also as per above, never get too hot to melt a cable, or effect it anyway!
 
Thanks a lot guys, aha that's set my mind at rest, I read it can get to 90c lol had visions of the cable melting.

It was the spinosaurus with SSD upgrade and gtx 580 upgrade and sound card.

The cable just looked all wrong really over tight I mean its strapped across the chipset tight I can't even nmove it 1cm that's how tight it is. There is plenty of room around the motherboard which is why it even lept out to my untrained eye as being to short and no reason to go across the whole motherboard and so tight?
 
If you take a picture then it would be easier to see.
I highly doubt that OCUK would do anything that had a chance of one day ruining your pc.
 
I'm sure your right, it just looks like someone did a short cut and the only route to take sA across the whole motherboard lol I'm being paranoid, il try get some pics for tomorrow.

Thats nothing to worry about really. That heatsink shouldnt get anywhere near hot enough to effect the cable.
 
Ok thank you, is this a normal route for the cable or is it just pure laziness? Couldn't they have gone around the mobo for a neater job?

Just looks so wrong to me jammed in-between the heat sink and graphics card, doesn't the graphics card get hot? As its pinched tight by it against the heatsink?
 
cables are often just jammed in whichever route to keep them out of the way haha, my cable for the chip power goes under my GPU in a similar way but at the other end :P
It'll be fine there.
 
Looks untidy imo , and tight.

What cable is it ? what does it connect to ?

It looks like a cable from the mobo to one of the front panel connectors.

You could probably route it under the mobo quite easily

It's so tight that I can't even unplug it. I'm no pc person so I wouldn't be able to move it Anyhows, that's why I bought a pre built one.

If its not likely to cause problems I will leave it alone as it is, just after spending £1700 I want to be sure.

Even my untrained eye can see other much better routes for it? Like around the mobo where all the other cables are.?

Looks and feels like a trainee cut the wire to short and thought ah sod it il just jam it in across the mobo and hope no one notices lol

If you guys had spent 1700 would you send it back to be redone or would u be happy leaving it?

Oc's build quality is usually pretty good, and I am surprised to see that cable so tight. Give them a call they will only be too glad to help i'm sure. To be perfectly frank if I was spending that sort of money I would expect better too, and I would expect them to send me an extension for that particulaer cable and fit it myself.

Photograph where it connects on the left side of your current picture, will be able to help you then.

Not worth the cost of returning, but a lazy bit of cable routing imo

Just had a quick Google, it looks like its the cable for the front audio - Headphone / mic inputs.

All the headers will be marked in some way, just disconnect them, re-route , then re connect - Take a photo of how they are now to help you remember which goes where

What extension should I ask for and what do unplug lol ? As I don't really want to have to send it back.

OC customer service is always top notch so I am not worried, just want to get it up and running.

Looks like the front panel audio connector. If you will not be using headphones or microphones plugged into the front panel of the case i would unplug that cable and tuck it out of the way.

On the other hand, if you will be needing it i would be tempted to undo the mobo mounting screws and route that cable under the motherboard.
 
I bought and OC installed a sound card, I take I will be plugging my headphones in the soundcard at the back if the pc?

So its ok to unplug it it then?
Which end is better to unplug? The bottom left with the white connector is easiest to get to.

Which case is it? Its the case manufacturers fault for making it so short really. Granted whoever assembled it could have located it more neatly but in the long run it really doesnt make a difference.

EDIT: unplug at the motherboard connector.

Unplug it from the board then and tuck it out of the way between the motherboard tray and side panel. It's also Asus fault for stickg the front panel header at the bottom rear corner of the board.

It's the Antec 300 gaming case that OC give when you buy the s Titan spinosaurus.

Yes I will be using for vent and headphones.

Ok great thank you for the help, il just unplug it and maybe when if I send it back for the sandybridge mobo replacement ask them to tidy it up then.
