Is it normal for my Sea Hawk 980Ti to make loads of noise when playing Alien Isolation ?

My 970 is super quiet. The fans don't even run below 60c

Mine makes a grinding sound when under load for some reason. Sounds like a cables caught in a fan but only happens under load - if I set the fans to spin up in MSI AB, the sound doesn't occur.

This is the second MSI Gaming 970 that I've had which made the same noise :p

If you just bought it I would RMA again. You bound to get a good one at some point :D

Can someone else with a sea Hawk try out Alien Isolation on 1440 RES with no 60 fps Lock tell me what there's does please ?

I will try some older games tonight and see if it makes this noise with high FPS or if its just Aliens.

It is more than likely coil whine. the processor will be working harder to generate the higher frames. so it will be drawing more power.

try another game and see if it whine when the FPS is very high.

GW's fps performance hit can negate coil whine, it's usefull afterall.:p

That's one hell of a way to solve the 970's coil whine, those dastardly buggars. :D

Just send it back mate, it's not good enough. You could probably live with it, but why should you?

Definitely...

If it turns out it's just one game just chalk it up too an oddity but if it happens in even one more title (test as many as possible) don't risk it just send it back as you don't want to find it happening with lots of future titles down the line when you're unable to do anything about it.

Coil whine can also be down to your psu.

I can hear whine at 500fps with a 500w corsair builder series but not when using my Silverstone strider 1200w gold. I was running occt gpu test on min res.

I'm pretty sure if you buy any product online within 14 days you have the right to return it no matter what.

If its normal for Graphics cards to whine then I'll keep it as its no a massive issue and it doesn't effect the game or graphics . I've found another game it does it pretty bad on also , Dying Light running on max running around 30 / 50 fps , loads whine on this also.

+1,

@op, I'd reject it, imo, chances are it'll get tested on a high end/watt superflower and it won't make a peep, if your psu met Nv's min requirement it should work as advertised.
