How = place a flat-head screwdriver between the power-on pins on the motherboard, and... ta-dah... it'll turn on...

Why = for testing purposes, you put the CPU, RAM, graphics, etc. into the motherboard outside of a case... easier to pull things in and out because there's more space and no cables hanging around.

Done it plenty of times. Just use a small screwdriver and dont touch any other pins . . . .

On the motherboard where you plug the front panel connectors to. Short the two that hook up to the power button and away you go.

saves putting it all together in the case then finding out your motherboard is DOA and have to rip the lot appart again :rolleyes:
