Is it ok to rewire a small fan connector so it accepts molex fans?

I have a fan controller that only has the small fan connector type, i was wondering if i could just rewire it so i can connect it to my molex fans, i know it won't be able to show rpm but is it safe to do with similar power use?

As far as I know it is just the same power just a different connector.

thats fine just make sure you get the wires the right way round or the fan won't work.

Thanks, just one more question, i know most of these fan controllers allow for 4 fans to run off of one molex but im unsure if thats safe on power load, should anything else be connected to the psu cable its using or not?

There was another thread about how much people run off one molex. Since fans use so little power you could have loads attached.

Thanks will try to find it, i had a look at a bunch of my fans and noticed i have one or two 80mm ones with a molex and a small fan connector, are they're also ok with 120mm fans?

Fans dont draw much power.

Small fan connectors are fine too.

I have 3 fans and a hard drive (molex->sata converter) running from one molex (crappy psu!).

Just make sure that the volts and amps are not exceeded.

In that thread it worked out that you could take something like 60 1watt fans for 5amp current draw (rating of the standard cabling to the molex). I wouldn't worry about it.

look at your PSU power rating. Most rails suport 30-60W. TH most powerful fan i have is a 3 watt delta ehe (it should be written on the fan) just keep the total less than the rating for the PSU rail.

For molex connectors: yellow is +9V nearest black to this is ground for this. Red is 5V and again the nearest black cable shoudld be used to ground. If you look at a spare fan-molex connector you will be able to see which way they wired it up and can just follow the same idea.

Whilst your there don't forget to braid the cables!

That not right, The single 12V wire on one molex couldn't take the full load of the rail.
