Basically I must have lost my drivers license whilst shopping a few days ago, and someone's called my dads house (the address on my license is my dads address, I move around quite a bit as a student so leave it as that) and given me a number to call in order to go and collect it. Which I shall do.

But i'm wondering how he got my dads number, being as it's not on the license. can you call directory inquiries and request a number armed only with an address or something?. I'm intrigued..

Yes, I think you can do that or just use your name to look it up in the phone directory. But you can't use a telephone number to find out someone’s address.

I thought everybody knew you could just pick the phone up to directory enquiries, rattle off a name and address and you'd get a phone number?

Providing, of course, the number isn't ex-directory. :p

Thats against the law and theres no way that BT will give you a name and address from a phone number. the dodgy sites on the net use old catalogue lists.

Yep, sorry I missed out the "'t". That is what I was trying to say lol :o :p

Aha, then I obviously didn't understand the point of directory inquiries :P. I've only ever used them for business numbers. Thank-you for clearing that up .
