Thinking of moving out, but need to decide on Furnished or Unfurnished rent.

Now, doing it on the cheap (ie. not new DFS sofas and the like) is it possible to furnish a 3 bedroom house to a reasonable standard with £2000?

freecycle/ebay/paper ads

then yea easy ! rent a van for a day and go round collecting stuff. its amazing what people give away and its amazing what sells for really cheap on ebay because no one wants to go collect.

Not if you need everything, If I was you I'd start off making a list and then start googling for prices.

Its possible, providing you are willing to accept second hand goods/freecycle etc. Plus its dependant on exactly what you need. Furniture, beds, whitegoods, etc.

Yeah, quite easily. White goods/electrical products will be what scuppers you though. Beds/sofas/tables are cheap to buy and/or very easy to find much cheaper through 2nd hand.

Depends on how much space you need to fill. You could probably get it changed down a few denominations and it'll go further.

£5s for the floor, 10ps for the walls. Should work.

You won't be able to buy it all in one go I would say. Just buy the essentials first. Your bedroom is already sorted as you can just take the stuff you already have.
Do the other bedrooms as needed.
Living room all you really need to start you off is a Couch(get a cheap one from DFS avoid Ikea), Table, TV unit and a TV.
Kitchen - Cooker, Washing machine, Fridge, Cookeware crockery etc..
Carpets, Go to an independant shop you should get a good deal if you tell him how much you want to spend, say £500 - £700.
Bathroom, just steal some towels from friends and family lol.

Why a 3 bedroom house anyway? moving in with friends? ask them to chip in?

Easily if you don't mind 2nd hand stuff.

If I look at our house:
Fridge - For free from someone who passed away.
Couch set ( 3 piece, one 3seater, one 2 seater, one 1seater, black leather)- free from neighbor who moved away.
Bosch Ceramic cooker - 50 euro's second hand.
Things like a couple of bookshelves - free, someone threw it away, we picked it up as we walked by ( whatever, if furniture looks nice and usable I'm taking it home, don't care if someone threw it away!).
( massive multi piece) Closet set for bathroom - 3 tenners second hand.
4 dinner seats - 40€ from charity shop
New big glass diner table - 150 through a contact.

etc...
No need to spend a lot on nice stuff, you just don't have to mind using 2nd hand stuff. CRT tv's are dead cheap too, a 26'' crt tv is sold for two tenners sometimes, I reckon that for 2k for the whole house, you could easily have one tv in every bedroom too.

You could. You'll have some really **** stuff though.

Not true - when we moved into this house we didn't have much to bring with us - only the sofas really, we got dining table set, beds for the kids, bedroom furnature (all ikea malm - superking bed too) for our room etc... and we finished kitting the whole house out on just under £2k using the above mentioned methods - ebay, preloved.com freeads.com freecycle - all are invaluable imo!

Also www.localbargainfinder.com will ebay search for you all the collection stuff near to your postcode

When I bought my house, needed a few months to get the pennies back in the bank, 2 seater + 3 seater sofa from ebay, in a lock n store 200m from my old house. £33.21 or something.

Removable covers in the wash, got a van. Job done.

People are glad to see stuff go to a good home rather than the bin. Especially when they spend so much on it to start with.

Edit: I would also ask around, people keep items in their sheds/garages for years waiting for a lucky sole like you to come and take it away.
