Is it possible to have 2 routers for 1 internet connection?

Reason I need it is for gaming. My dad has the router in his room, and I game (PS3 and PC) wireless and would love to turn wired.

Any ideas?
 
Two on the adsl connection directly? No

But you can use homeplaugs to give you a wired connection from his router via the electric circuit :)
 
It should be possible to use the second router as a switch for the purpose of extending a wired network to additional devices. Ordinarily this requires a small degree of pre-configuration on the secondary router to ensure it is working on the correct network range as defined on the primary router and to disable DHCP and possibly any dynamic (UPnP) port forwarding.

If you get stuck then give the make and model of the routers in question and someone will be able to further elaborate.
 
I have my router in front room then into a homeplug then in the office it comes back out homeplug and into another router. That way i have a wired connection for my pc in office and two seperate wireless networks to overcome signal problems.

Using netgear dg834g routers and only requires a few setting changed.

Are you wanting a cable running from his router to you pc? If no then homeplugs :)

I'm a noob at this, so I can't understand much of what you are saying :P I contacted my ISP, and they said it can't be done :/

How does the switch work.

Basically, I want a wired connection, but my router aint in my room, so I need another device which will give me WIRED connection through someting else.

How does the switch work exeactly (As I said, I'm a noob xD)

Been there, done that.

Thing is that doors are in the way :P I can't close my door as it pases under it, and same for my parent's door (modem/router is there) so when I talk whilst playing, they wake up :(

Plus, i want it for PS3 aswell, so I don't have to stay switching :P
 
Homeplugs.

Google it and read a little :)

It sends your net connection through the powerlines of your house.

Plug first one in room with router. Then second on your PS3 plug. Connect with ethernet. No need for more than 1 router unless wireless bridging.
 
Homeplugs will give you the wired connection without the wires, they plug into a mains socket then use the eletrical wiring in your house to carry the connection.

You can either get a 2 pack and use a small switch in your room (a switch in most basic terms allows multiple devices to connect to the same connection) - this is what I would do. Or you could get a 3 pack of homeplugs.

Is it complicated to do or no?

I'll do a little reasersch, but a few easy steps would be appriciated
 
It's really simple, buy a pack of 2 homeplugs (~£40), 1 switch (~£10), 4 cat5e cables (~£5)

Plug 1st homeplug near your router, connect to one of the LAN ports on your router with one of the cables.
Plug 2nd homeplug in room with PS3 and PC, connect to any LAN port on the switch.
Connect PS3 and PC + anything else to the other LAN ports on the switch.

**** sake, all this cool stuff costs soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much. Need a job baaaaaaad
 
Get 2 homeplugs for £40ish.

Get 2 ethernet cables for £3 total on ebay.

One homeplug plugged into router and into powersocket.

Other homeplug in any socket around your house with ethernet going into PS3.

Switch is required for multiple ethernet outs.

Will running a wired connection through old existing electrical cabling really be quicker than wireless though?

Surely wireless can't increase the ping rate by a huge amount?
