Is it possible to port an O2 number out before the SIM is activated?

I have transferred my Orange number to an O2 PAYG SIM so I can transfer it back to a new Orange contract.

I can now recieve texts on the O2 SIM but cannot send them or make or receive calls before I put £10 on the SIM to activate it.

Can I now port the number back to Orange or do I have to put £10 on the SIM to activate it before I port it?
 
I would have thought that you would have to put some credit on the card or they might charge you for porting the number.

But I suppose only o2 can answer that question.

Okay, I've put £10 on it now and have a month to spend it.
