To get a car from free from somewhere? A car that has passed its MOT and is roadworthy?
If not free, then a couple of hundred quid.
Im after a cheap car that can be used for commuting. Ive been looking at Mk3 astras, escorts, fiestas etc. Really want to find one that has an MOT.

If my mums track record with cars is anything to go by then yes, yes there are. I don't know how she does it but with no mechanical experience she always manages to pick up dirt cheap run arounds, that last ages, and need very little/no work doing to them while she has them. Seriously she's got a gift or something.

didn't clarkson manage to pick up an old volvo from a volvo dealer for £1?

Yep :D Old volvo's are a good bet. Mine cost £100. Ive done 8,000 miles, with the only failiure being a split top rad pipe (£5 to replace). Its flown through its MOT, been to france and back and carried numerous heavy loads including a boot full of paving slabs!

Not bad for £100, and it refuses to die! :D

What kind of volvo is it? £100 is amazing! Where did you get it from?

It came in as a part ex at a garage where my mom worked. Now before i decieded to buy a CTR (worst decision of my life) my mom knew i was looking for a cheap runaround (it was either get a really good hot hatch or just get a cheap runaround and save a bit of cash first), so when this car came into the garage where my mom worked, she told me about it.

I walked into the garage, spoke to the sales manager, asked how much it had come in for, he said £100. So i said "well i'll give you £100 here and now then" and he said ok :D

Obviously i had taken it for a drive first and everything like that. It was filthy, previously owned by a farmer.

My mom got the valeting team on it for half the day (for free :D) and it shined up rather well as you can see in the pictures.

I had the non working fuel gauge fixed with a gauge from the scrappy. Two new tyres on the front from a local garage, a service (sparks etc) by a mate, and thats it, we went the 1,300 miles to le mans with no problem at all :D

Obviously theres the odd scratch here and there, nothing really for a 17 year old car. and its not the most economical car in the world especially as i do mostly town driving, but i think i can now afford a few extra tanks of fuel!

Its provided me with 8,000 miles trouble free motoring, apart from the radiator pipe, and suprisingly, me and my mates have had more fun in it, than we ever did with my CTR.

I got a 1993 Rover 420SLi 2.0 16v for free, with 2 months tax and 5months MOT. In very good condition too :)

Look at salvage yards and that. See if you can find a drive off.

My dad once sold an Old metro with 30k miles on the clock for 30 quid...the MOT it passed was £35 :p

Get down to Wokingham Car Spares. last time i was there they had a drivable spazwagon/popemobile.

maybe you would be interested :D

I got my Dolly for free too, 6 months MOT - I was the only one who'd actually come around to have a look and he was moving out that week :)

Great little motor too, love it to pieces :D

Best bet is local rags/papers/trade places/auctions for something cheap and reliable, or head onto eBay and buy a Pug 205 diesel for about 50 quid.
