Basically I want to order some new clothes but the UK site is a fair bit more expensive compared to the UK site. Also as far as I can work out it all comes from the same place, which is a bit of a joke.

Is it at all possible to order from the US site and still get it delivered to the UK?

E.g Abercrombe site and Hollister site too.

Yes, but you might have to pay some duty when it gets delivered.

I often stick a note on any US purchases asking if they will write GIFT on the parcel, means I don't have to pay duty fee...

Not true

(a) writing Gift only raises the threshold from £18 to £36
(b) fraudulently declaring things as Gift can get you and the Vendor is a lot of trouble (and probably isn't valid if the sender is a business anyway).

Doesn't anyone do a search on the forum before asking about importing things ... it seems like we have a thread with the same questions (and wrong information) every month ...

Whether they will ship to the OP or not ... well look at the delivery information on the store, it should say where they deliver to. If it doesn't then email their customer services and, you know, ask ...

I hate it when customers ask us to do this.

That's ok, I'll take the risk. Still end up a bit cheaper if I do.

How do I go about it?

Higher shipping, duty + VAT. You sure?

I ordered a t-shirt from the US that was on special offer at $5, the useless gits that posted it wrote a value of $35 on the parcel so I got taxed for a $35 import! The single most infuriating thing is that the Royal Fail with their ridiculous £8 handling fee still cost me about the same as the price of the T-Shirt, postage and tax!

You do know that "Gift" doesn't suddenly make something tax/vat exempt?
That a "Gift" is just as likely to be stopped as any other parcel?
That die to people abusing the "Gift" idea then in fact a "Gift" is probably more likely to be stopped?
That the company sending the item can get into serious trouble with their local C&E for doing such a thing?
That basically the whole "Gifts cost you nothing extra" is a complete urban myth?

Just keep your punches to under 25 GBP, thats my golden rule for avoiding import fees, and I import a lot from the US.

Not looking forward to the field day royal mail and customs are going to have with me when my atmospheric water generator finally gets imported, I'm expecting fees of around 500 gbp

Never knew this, I've always done it and never been charged duty fee... ?

Even Footlocker did it :/

Very simple answer is to look at the sites shipping policy but as mentioned there is a possibility of duties being stamped on the parcels so up to you if you want to take the risk.

It is very much luck of the draw ... of the last four packages I have received from abroad (none of which were marked as gifts) one was below the threshold, two made it through without any charges and one got charged.

When I used to get a lot more from the states I used to find that packages from some retailers got charged more often than others, (e.g. t-shirts got charged all the time, but DVD's frequently made it through uncharged), independent of value or carrier.

You normally get charged a large admin fee and VAT, I actually found it quite rare to be charged duty (IIRC duty isn't normally actually charged unless it comes to >£7? ... but it's been a while so I may be wrong).

I wouldn't want to be in Footlockers shoes if they were caught fraudulently marking packages as gifts.
