Hi guys.

Would my XFX 850W XXX PSU handle 3 x 6950's that can be switched to 6970's?

Also. the board has x1 PCI Express x16 slot (x16), x2 PCI Express x16 slots (x8), x2 PCI Express x1 slots (x1)
I'ts the same as this board but the G1.Sniper (rev. 1.0)

So by having a 3rd card! would i lose performance seeing the 3rd PCI-E slot is 8x

Thanks for you help guys!:)

6950's maybe, they have a TDP of 200 W each, but don't over clock them and I'd avoid using benchmarks like furmark which may take power consumption over the TDP.

6970 I'd say no 250 W x 3 would hit 750 W only leaving you with 100 W for the rest of your system. It might well work, but it would be on the limit, too close for comfort.

i would suggest buying a voltage/amp/current meter to see your power draw from the mains socket, this is only way to be 100% sure. The PSU will go beyond specs but stressing it could kill it.

Some numbers for you:

i7-2600K @ 4.6GHz
TriFire unlocked HD 6950 Sapphire TOXIC's @ 980MHz/5400MHz

Prime95 running 8 threads, CPU @ 100% load
Furmark running all 3 GPU's @ 95%+ load

Maximum power draw from the mains 850W.

1250W Gold rated PSU, say 92% efficient.

Actual output from the PSU ~782W.

So that's really a worst case scenario.

Remember you don't want to be running a PSU too close to it's maximum output for long periods.

If it's this one http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-000-XF 70A/840W

That's what I'm working on. :)

That's the one :)

So it's possible! but pushing it abit!?

Nothing you'd notice.

3 cards crammed in might be a bit toasty.

I have the Asrock Z68 Extreme7 Gen3 so there's a gap between the cards.
Yeah 3 cards that close will get bit hot on that board lol!
So if i use 2 cards. will it then be ok to have the 2nd card on slot 3 which is x8 not x16. so i won't lose much in performance like you say. or just keep the 2nd card in slot 2 :)?

Are you using 3 cards on your system them!
Got any pics :)
I was going to upgrade, but the i7 950 DO still works fine with my games, so i thought i'd stay with it for bit longer.

Thanks for your help!
