Is it time that Android users start using Anti virus?
I have seen a few reports every now and again but today I thought i would pose the question again and see if anyone else has opted for using any Anti virus on their Android phones.
I at present do not have any.
have a read of this

How exactly do you stop malware on Android? They are very different in nature to PC malware and viruses.

Only some kind of pretesting would truly stop it and there are obvious issues with that.

Has anyone here suffered from any form of attack from any apps that were downloaded from the apps market any other??

Absolutely not. If Google can't build anti-virus into Android (if it ever needed it), I won't use Android.

Same goes for WP7 and iOS if it ever came to that.

No, since it's based on the Linux kernel which has extremely good security measures built in from day one, as opposed to what you're used to in Windows. Not least of which being the complete inability of anything to get root access without being given permission. So any malware has to run completely at the app level, where it can't do any damage to the system, and can only basically monitor the use of other apps. And then it's clearly going to be a case of you can only get any if you're incredibly stupid with what you download.

Not had a problem, but then I only download apps that are useful, not crappy use-once-then-delete stuff.

And as the article says, sandboxing helps a lot in that apps are very limited to what they can do.

I have seen a few dodgy root apps (eg: terminal apps) which have had stuff in them.
Because they are in programs which people give root access to in order to use, they are very successful at going under the radar & I've seen a few included in some ROMs without people being aware.

At the moment as long as people are vigilant I don't think antivirus is needed.
I don't think it will be long before people realise how easily they can be victims tho given some of the stuff floating around in some security circles.

*think of what kind of data is on your phone and what implications it could have in the wrong hands

No and last time time I checked security is also an issue for other mobile OS;s. Didnt IOS have a big breach on one of its apps (it stole all your data) recently as the dev wanted to do it too see if it would get spotted - and it didnt.
