Evening all!

It's been a while since I bought some new stuff for the old PC and I'm getting that all too familiar itch.

I was wondering if an i750 set up would give me a very noticeable boost in performance from what I currently have? Or should I wait until the next cycle of Intel's releases to bother? My setup is in my sig.

Would an AMD set up be an option?

I use the PC mainly for the internet, some games, and I'm planning on a doing a fair bit of encoding since I'm planning on getting an iPhone and watching stuff on the way into work. Oh, and I would most def be overclocking it! :D

Happy to hear your thoughts guys

I'd say you were borderline. Really depends how important preformance is for you. Also with all these threads how tight is money for you? £500 is a fortune to some and pittance to others. If you have it spare then do it. If not then your current set up is hardly obselete and tech is only going to get cheaper and faster as you wait.

If you want to overclock then the Intels will be more fun and give you considerably better performance. You will see a large boost in encoding and a reasonable boost in games from one of the i5's/i7's.

I do prefer the 1366 platform for some not so relevant technical aspects.

£500 isn't a pittance, nor is it bank breaking, it's all a matter of what I can get for that money. I worked out an i5 setup could cost me £321, i7 £431. £300 mark is mighty tempting...but my PC isn't excactly struggling with anything.

If the performance boost isn't particularly noticeable in day to day stuff, I may leave it for a few months until the tech becomes cheaper/something nice and even shinier comes along. And may even slip in a SSD in there while I'm at it. Just for japes.

Thanks for the opinions though, you've cured the itch for another 3 months :)
