Is it time yet to invest in a VR headset?

I'm most definitely not a Facebook fan. I created an account just to use the Quest 2 and I will not use it for anything else.
I don't want to risk a ban by posting something innocuous when they suddenly decide later it's 'misinformation' because it doesn't suit whatever agenda they have at that time.

Thanks for the input all, there seems to unanimous suggestion in favour of the Quest 2. For all the reasons listed it does seem like the better buy right now.

Can anyone comment on the Facebook links / integration with the kit. I am indeed strongly against Facebook and Zuck so if it's extremely in-your-face when you just use the kit that could easily be enough to make me send it straight back.
It's not intrusive at all right now, mainly just for the login. They are however looking at integrating adverts into select games. This hasn't gone well so far and the dev pulled their game out of the test so hopefully it won't continue

I agree it's not obtrusive in practice. The biggest risk is if you're an active Facebook user and doing a lot of posting and sharing, that if your account gets banned you will lose your Oculus games too. Best only to use Facebook just for the Oculus login.

As someone that barely posts on Facebook, is it very easy to get your account banned? I would assume that as most shouldn't have much to worry about there but maybe it's incredibly common

If you barely post you shouldn't have any issues, especially if it's a longstanding account. Bans normally happen very soon after account creation when their bots decide (often incorrectly) it's a fake account, or when people use fake details (which is against the terms of service), or when people post information that Facebook doesn't like. Unfortunately the sorts of information Facebook doesn't like changes constantly.

For the majority of people it's not an issue, but if it does happen then it can be a nightmare to sort out - and sometimes it's not possible. There have been far more issues with Facebook accounts and accounts getting banned for no real reason than there ever were with Oculus accounts.

Also with Facebook being a social media service, a post entirely separate to your gaming activity can cause loss of all your purchases.

The main issue with Facebook accounts is that you can only ever have one account, which must be tied to a real identity. So a permanent ban means never being able to log on to an Oculus headset again. That's unlike other gaming accounts where if your account gets banned you can create a new one (at the penalty of losing purchases), or if your hardware gets banned you can always get a new console/computer.

Most people will never enounter these issues, but it's always better to be informed of what the difference is between a Facebook account and other gaming accounts.

You don't actually "need" a Facebook login https://youtu.be/5cyijb7CJZU this method worked for me last month. I have a quest 2 which I use a lot with no Facebook account, who knows if this will get stopped at some point.

Thanks for the detailed post! It isn't a good system definitely even if it only affects a few people, especially if they've not actually done anything wrong.

Funnily enough, most the complaints you see on the reddit posts start off with saying they've done nothing wrong. Then after a few replies they mention that it was a fake name. Or they only posted "banter" racist comments or similar. Brand new accounts can get frozen, it was definitely happening during the US elections, but I think it was more they were caught in the crossfire of trying to stay on top of manipulative trolls, and as long as you can prove your ID, you tend to get it back.

Interesting! I'm good as I pretty much exclusively use my fb for messanger with certain people, but good to know that I should try and stay from too much trolling haha
